Hello all applicants,
This is Haas threadmaster. R1 deadline is very near and I know many of you are busy writing editing essays. Just as a pointer your resume is equally important and many schools require 1 page business resume so start thinking about that.

I assume that many of you are pretty smart and already know how to do this but just want to point it out. So some pointers for resume
Quote:
1. (Indian Applicants) - Please do not write down your 10th and 12th grade marks, no one cares about those. Same thing applies to your JEE, AIEEE ranks. They do sound great in India but here it doesn't really matter, I feel if anything they will hurt your profile by showing you are cocky.

2. No "Eagle Scout" or "Girl Scout" experience unless you are still ACTIVELY involved with them.

3. Make it more action oriented. For example
"Proposed new product design method which encouraged innovation and led to 2 patents" or
"Implemented such and such initiative which led to $xxxxx in annual savings and $xxxxxx savings in capital investment" or
"Designed a blah blah model to reduced the testing requirement by xx%"

Also, Don't forget that filling out the application itself is a long process so start working on it right now so if you realize that you are missing some documents you will have enough time to acquire those.

Here is a good post about resume and mistakes to avoid

https://gmatclub.com/blog/2010/08/4212/

I am just giving my 2 cents because if you look at the numbers Haas could be the second or third most competitive school to get in. I just want everyone to put the best foot forward. :-D

For the supplemental information section, are you guys listing that information in paragraph form or bullet? Also, has adcoms provided indication on preferable word count?

The application has TONS of possible places for supplemental information. You should log in to see. There's one for gaps in employment, another for quantitative skills, and another for general. They list word counts where appropriate.

Am I missing something? We can't upload PDFs of our essays on Haas's site? Ugh, that makes me really nervous. When you go to submit, do you at least get to preview the whole application? This is the last application now (latest deadline). Although I noticed that Haas has a really different user interface, I wasn't prepared to have to insert my answers in plain text.

Also, how are people handling the supplemental questions? I can't tell if they want me to repeat stuff from my resume...

I just noticed something really unusal about the TOEFL requirements.

TOEFL scores are valid for 2 years, yet the Haas application says "TOEFL/IELTS exam must have been taken after June 1, 2011".

I took the TOELF in May, 2011. I'll contact their admission's office about this because if I have to retake the TOEFL then I'll really find myself in a mess trying to fit it into into my schedule in the coming weeks. I find this policy quite odd as my scores will be still valid WAY after the decision date of the round I'm applying in.

I believe it's University policy that your TOEFL must be valid at the time of matriculation. I'm surprised it's not later to be honest.

Every other school I'm applying to is fine with a valid TOEFL score at the deadline of the round you're applying in, that's why I said I find this unusal.

As a rule, I avoided repeating stuff from my resume. supplemental question is more about explaining weakness or something really cool in your profile. Like(it should be such as) you like to fix Thai music instruments.

Anyone using a specific format for the supplemental questions:
2. List in order of importance all community and professional organizations and extracurricular activities in which you have been involved during or after university studies. Indicate the nature of the activity or organization, size of the organization, dates of involvement, offices held, and average number of hours spent per month.

Is there anybody else who's facing problems in uploading their transcripts/resume to Berkeley's online application? I'm uploading pdf version of my transcripts and resume but am getting the following errors repeatedly -

The form was not submitted because of the following error(s)

The resume file 'xxxx.pdf' is not a valid file type. Please upload a valid file type your resume.

I had no problems uploading mine. In fact, Haas was the only one that accepted files larger than 1MB
