I only got the motivation from Jp27 and Marcab...to draw out this diagram They provided the needed
drive.. Thanks to both of you guys.

Let X = No1 Best seller; Y= Major Literary Price Winners; Z=unusually High Long Term Sales
I think, its more like: ALL X are not Y, but all Y are Z.
The relationship b/w X and Z is left open.

Either way, whether 1BS is a subset or shares some elements (or none) with unusual High LTS,
we know that condition holds true.

From the diagram attached, I think one should be able to find the correct answer

Let A - no.1 best seller; B- major literary prize winners; C- unusually high long term sales.
We are given that, "No A are B; All B are C"
So we can infer : A)No C are A--cannot be said--incorrect
B)Some A are not C----possible
C)All C are A-----not possible.
D)Some C are not A---possible.
E)No A are C ---cannot be said--incorrect.
So between B and D if we look closely, I find D is correct.
Hope this is the right option. :)

Book publishing executive: I am becoming increasingly convinced that the interaction between book sales and
literary quality is not a simple one. For example, I now believe that no number one best seller will win the major
literary prizes. But I also believe that all major literary prize winners will have unusually high long-term sales.

If the beliefs that the book publishing executive claims to hold are true, which of the following must also be true
on the basis of them?

A. No books with unusually high long-term sales are number one best sellers.
B. At least some number one best sellers are not books with unusually high long-term sales.
C. All books with unusually high long-term sales are number one best sellers.
D. At least some books with unusually high long-term sales are not number one best sellers.
E. No number one best sellers have unusually high long-term sales.

OA after discussions

this is dozy of problem. LSAT huh?

IMO D not B. What does the answer guide

-----> All who win major literary prize have long term sales. However there could be other (apart from major literary prize winners)
books too who have long term sales. Thus, these books could possibly include ALL the number one best sellers. Hence B does not hold.

Note: The key to solve these type of questions is to find exception -find a possibility that contradicts the option and eliminate.
Kudos, if u like :)

After taking too much time, chose D,just because it made some sense while others didn't!

If Bestseller--> Not win

All winners__> high sales

Using contrapositive

win--> not a bestseller
but if I win I also have high sales

So if I have high sales, not bestseller
