Hey guys.
I picked 5 target schools but am thinking about adjusting my list before I apply.
Please give me any idea about my target school list(eg. more safties needed, no fit for u..etc)

Here is my profile:


1) Brief description of your full-time work experience.
Currently working at a research department of a local investment bank as a credit analyst.
Had worked at two accounting firms(Big4).
As of matriculation, I will have 4 years and 2 months of professional experience.

2) Your GMAT/TOEFL
720(V: 81%, Q: 90%, AWA 4)
Will take TOEFL exam soon(100~110 expected)

3) College info:
GPA 3.6/4.3, Major GPA 3.85/4.3
Bachelor in Business Admin.
Graduated in 2009

4) Significant college and post-college extra-curricular activities or community service, especially leadership experience.
Served in Marine Corp(not USMC, mandatory) for 2 years
President of a student club in the college

5) Important certifications like CFA, CPA, FSA, or CA.
CPA, FRM

6) Your target programs.
Top 10: Tuck, Kellogg
Top 20: Fuqua, UCLA Anderson, McCombs

7) Your post-MBA goal.
Financial analyst at one of Fortune 500 companies

8) I married US citizen and we're living outside US for now. Likely to apply for green card once admitted.

Hi,

Thanks for writing here.

GMAT - Your GMAT is perfect with the schools mentioned here, I would suggest you to take a shot at H/S/W as well (Dream Schools) if you think their study method suits your goals. After all, you apply once so, you have to work hard on emerging out to be a unique candidate.

Area of improvement - EC and Leadership - I am not sure by what time are you planning to apply, but I suggest you develop some EC by the time you apply. If your time schedule is too tight, choose something like photography and get involved with local clubs.

For leadership, I suggest you take an initiative at work (even it is short time project) to craft a story at essays and interviews

Your profile is non conventional and you will be competing with candidates with equal competence. The challenge is how you differentiate yourself with the same profiles.

Rest of your schools are fit, you can take a chance at H/S/W in the first round next year if you are not planning to apply this year.

I think you have a strong profile and your schools are in line with your stats. As Oasis suggested, you might want to try H/S/W. I think Harvard particularly likes military applicants.

In terms of other schools that are a fit, you might want to tell us more about what you want out of a school--like size of class, geography, teaching method, types of clubs you want to join, etc. Your goal of financial analyst is common enough for any top school to prepare you well for that.

On paper, you have a very strong profile and based on this I would recommend that you shoot for top programs. Based on your career goals, I would recommend HBS, Wharton, Columbia, Booth, Kellogg and Tuck (I would not recommend Stanford, MIT or Haas as these school prefer candidates with more entrepreneurial career goals). For back-up schools, I recommend Cornell and Darden.

To optimize your chances at the top programs (which I assume are your top choices), you need to make sure that all of your hard work, focus and goals translate into a strong application. This means that you have to market yourself in the correct manner making sure that your essays, recommendations, interviews and other controllable aspects of your application are up the the standards of these schools. Simply put, your background makes you a competitive candidate at all these schools, but there are lots of other qualified and prepared candidates applying for a small group of available spots. At this stage, those who will be admitted and those who will be rejected pretty much boil down to those who present excellent applications and those who do not.
