A. then, as it is now, the first and most successful
B. first and most successful as a
C. then first and now the most successful
D. the first, and remains the most successful,
E. the first and still the most successful

OA..........

I would rather choose E.

A. then, as it is now, the first and most successful implies that the organization was then the first and now also the first. I feel that the first will remain the first; there is absolutely no need of repeating that he is now also the first. ex- Neil Armstrong was the first human to land on Moon. No matter how many humans now land on Moon, Neil will remain forever the first human to land on Moon.
B. first and most successful as a "THE" is missing. It is a must in this case.
C. then first and now the most successful "then first" implies that at the previous moment it was the "first" organization to have bla bla but now some other organization have replaced it.
D. the first, and remains the most successful, It undermines the second part "remains the most successful"
E. the first and still the most successful Correct.
Whats the OA and the source GMATBULL?

Hello ->
I think there is an issue in E.
See the verb "was" that applies to 2nd half also I guess.
So the sentence wud read-> was the first and was still the most successful

And why "the" is must the option B? can you pls let me know?

Hey ssup...?
Even if the sentence reads "...was the first and was still the most successful", then what? The logic of the sentence is " Even if THE organization was the first and was still the most successful bla bla..."; in other words, "Despite the fact THE organization was the first one, it was still the most successful"
Now try reading without the "THE" in the above explanation, you will come to know why "THE" is necessary.
Hope that helps

Hi Marcab

I also went on to choose D, but yes Jp has rightly stated, the second part deals with the issue at present time, hence how can we use was for it. We must use "IS"

Archit.
IMO still is playing the role of contrast.
"Despite the fact that NCIED was the first among others, it was the most successfull of them all".
I hope I am making myself clear.
But let us get the OA from BULL.

Sentence seems good to me. It's important that any changes still convey that the NCIED was both the first organization if its kind and has always been the most successful. So eliminate B and C. A is pretty good. D is fine, but A unncessary, so terminate it. E is out for sounding silly. A it is.

I agree with Marcab. There is no point repeating "First" as it is implied.

Will go with E.

The NCIED was

D. the first, and remains the most successful,
E. the first and still the most successful

national organization solely dedicated to developing American Indian economic self-sufficiency through business ownership.
How is D different from E both in grammar and context?
OA is .
I think is out for some reasons, including the explanations given by Marcab.

Where has this question come from?
It is much better to get the explanation from an Instructor, rather than now drive away explanations from the OA provided.
By posting the answers later, GMATBULL you are doing a wonderful work. Keep it up.
