Hi Santhosh,
Thanks for reaching out. You seem very aware of your advantages and disadvantages in the application process, so now the next step is positioning you in the best way possible given these challenges. Fortunately for you, the most important factors in MBA admissions in the US are your application essays and recommendations (for example, I have actually worked with an applicant with excellent essays who was admitted to HBS with a 590). You will need to put together some really stellar essays in order to gain admissions to top/second tier schools in the US and ensure that your recommendations are equally superlative. The
Stratus Prep team and I would be happy to collaborate with you on these facets of your application.
While you say that you do not want to retake the GMAT, I strongly recommend that you do so even if you can go up 30 or 40 points, (though a score above 650 would ideal). If you are able to commit to private tutoring for even a few weeks, you would likely see a significant change. You can overcome a low undergraduate GPA or a low GMAT score, but it is much more difficult to overcome both, as the schools then have little evidence that you will be able to handle the academic rigors of the MBA. In just ten hours of tutoring, the
Stratus Prep team helped a client go from a 560 to a 700 and get into Columbia this year so you can improve significantly.
If you are not able to change your GMAT score, you are likely looking at schools outside the top 50 which I would not recommend as the return on investment may not be sufficient to justify the cost.
If you would like to talk more about GMAT tutoring or MBA Admissions Counseling, I would be happy to assist you. At
Stratus Prep we offer one-on-one tutoring and MBA Admissions virtually, and we have clients all over the world, including many in India. Email me at
