Tuck's location is a HUGE liability, one that makes it not competitive against the likes of wharton/booth/columbia. While people at those other schools can easily interview for jobs in NYC or Chicago, Tuck students have to take a long trek just to get to a major city. This makes recruiting extremely tough.

This is not really true at all. As a current student I can tell you that the majority of companies that most people would be interested in give interviews on campus. All the major banks and consultancies plus the majority of "gold standard" GM programs give on campus interviews. McKinsey actually place a full time member of staff in Hanover for the recruiting season. So you'll have access to the majority of companies that you'll want to recruit for. Niche occupations are admittedly a little harder, PE and VC will require you to look to the Tuck network to find job opportunities, but then it's well known to be the best alum network in the world so that's no trouble either. As for travel, there is a coach to Boston every couple of hours that has air conditioning and Wifi, most of us use that time to get work done. There is a coach a couple of times a day to NY, but the better way to get to NY is to fly from Lebanon airport ($100 each way) which is a 45 min flight. Also, when you travel for second round interviews usually the company you are interviewing with will pay for your travel and a hotel.

Yeah, I'd think the extremely strong alumni network would mitigate any of the negatives regarding the location. From my admittedly outsider experience, no way a Wharton/Columbia grad would go out of his way to help a current student. Booth maybe, but that's a stretch.

I'm super excited but scared at the same time..

It seems that we applied for many same schools!!
Good luck to you!! hope we both become T '14! :)

We did apply to many of the same schools. Unfortunately, the 30% increase in Tuck applicants makes me nervous. I wish you the very best. Hopefully on Friday we will rejoice together when we receive our acceptance phone calls.

Danjohn, an adcom member addressed the 30% increase in another forum and stated that this info isnt shared until the end of the complete admissions cycle. This figure is entirely speculative.

Speculative? - probably. Yet I think ~30% increase in EA makes sense - for two reasons:

1) GMAC reported that a lot of candidates rushed to take the test before the format change this year. Folks who would have otherwise put off until July or August had their scores ready before June and had ample time to work on their apps. A corollary that follows is that early apps % must have been higher at other schools too (we just won't know until the cycle is over).

2) Tuck has been ranked 2-1-2 over that last three years by Economist (up from 6th and 5th in 2008 and 2009). Although I am not sure how big these rankings are locally, I can speak for internationals who take these rankings very seriously. I'm guessing the increased visibility and consistent rankings led to more apps from candidates outside the country.

Granted all this is based on theories and inferences and there is nothing we can do about it even if it were true :) All I wanted to say is that there are factors that support this figure - I wouldn't be surprised if an adcom person had a slip of tongue and said that out loud :o

Ha ha, anything to keep our anxious brains from going crazy in the void

I wish I could transport myself to Friday for few minutes and then get back to focus on work today before my manager decides to retract his recommendation

For most jobs at a company with an established recruiting program, the location of the school does not matter much. There are certain jobs that require heavy networking (finance industry); however, the networking expectation on a local school versus a distance school is different.

I think location comes into play for niche or off campus jobs, such as startups. Location also comes into play on post-MBA job location. This is because the network will be stronger, the closer it is to the school’s location. I would imagine Tuck students would have an easier time finding a job in the Northeast region than in the Bay Area, for example.

Tuck has a strong network, but I wouldn't make an overarching statement about Wharton/CBS. I’ve worked with some very helpful people for the more “cut-throat” schools, and I’ve also heard about the “Tuck Elites”. There are different kinds of people at all schools. Even if Wharton has less helpful alums in general, it also has 4-5 times as many alums.

2 more days!!!

I just saw on the first page that 1 person has already denied?
I wonder if it is by mistake or if Tuck has released some candidates?
Does anyone know?

My guess would be that the person who has 'been denied" was an international candidate who never received an invitation to interview, and thus put two and two together. However, the official decisions go out at 5pm ET Friday so I dont think s/he has "offically" been denied at this point...

The first call was reported last year at 3 PM EST D-1 day. Can't wait for these 24 hours to fly by. All the best folks!

Spent the last 2 days nervously waiting for Kellogg, have to spend the next 2 nervously waiting for Tuck. What an exciting week!

Ditto. So calls for Tuck could start coming out this afternoon based on last year? Although I guess if Kellogg has taught me anything, its to disregard last year's approach.
