Having taken both myself, I agree that they are very different but neither really tests business concepts, it's just another metric to standardize people.

Did you take both because you want to do a joint degree?

Yes, tests are used to standardize people; that's what the whole admissions process does, i guess. There is however a strong correlation between GMAT scores and first-year MBA grades.

I took it for applications to other grad schools some time back.

I'd argue that GPA is a much better metric for assessing that than a standardized test.

Just got off the road from a very long day, so I wasn't able to post this earlier: I'm IN!!!

btw, worst meeting ever - sitting with my boss and a potential strategic partner today and the meeting ran well past noon...had to hide my anxiety, knowing the email was sitting there in my inbox.....

Really surprised that there are so many sub-3.5 gpa folks who got into HBS, given that they are gpa heavy and have a median gpa of 3.7. Congrats to all!!

Really Brady? Give it up. I know multiple dudes at HBS and this is just false.

Where do you see this requirement? There is a lot of stuff on the prematric site, I haven't looked into all details yet.

I am required to go through Analytics as well (accounting and finance). Probably because I am an engineer without any business education (even though I did spent 3 years in consulting at one of the M/B/B)...

Just curious, anyone felt they had a mediocre/less than mediocre interview and got in?

I am just trying to gauge our the perception of our int performance vs. reality..

It is one of the last items on the checklist - the list is chronological based on due date and the actual course is in mid-August. If you don't see it, you don't have to take it.

Yeah, same background here. Raised by accounts and taught myself finance during my BD role, but still an engineer with no formal accounting or finance education

Mediocre is good- because surprise surprise HBS didnt ask scripted STAR format questions. I felt my interviewer made up the questions along the way as we talked. I polled several students/alums and not one didnt reminisce their mediocre fare.

It'll be listed as "recommended" or "required" depending on how much analytical stuff is in your academic and professional background. Analytics is basically a one-week intro to case method learning, finance, accounting, and Excel magic before all your banker and consultant classmates show up for the official "Welcome to HBS" stuff. That's where I met most of my military classmates and other non-traditional guys/girls like engineers, non-profit workers, teachers, etc.
