W are given two equations: [A*x + B*y = Total Revenue], and [x + y = 400]


1) Solves for x and y, but we still have 3 unknowns (A, B, TR). Insufficient
2) Only solves for A, clearly insufficient


1 + 2: We don't know B and we don't have a relation between A and B either, thus we cannot solve for TS. We go with E.

To answer the question we should know:
(i) The number of tickets sold at a regular price;
(ii) The number of tickets sold at a reduced price;
(iii) The price of a regular ticket;
(iiii) The price of a reduced ticket;

(1) The number of tickets sold at the full price was 1/4 of the total number of tickets sold. 100 tickets were sold at a regular price and 300 tickets were sold at a reduced price. We know (i) and (ii) only. Not sufficient.

(2) The full price of a ticket was $25. We know only (iii). Not sufficient.

(1)+(2) We know (i), (ii) and (iii) , but we still don't know the price of a reduced ticket. Not sufficient.

Answer: E.

I agree with your explanation. But I feel there is an ambiguity in the question.

In the problem statement it was no where captured total number of tickets are 400 tickets only. It can be T total number of tickets and out of which 400 tickets are sold at Full and Reduced price. And the question wants to know the revenue of only 400 tickets.

Statement 1 says 1/4 of the T tickets are sold at full price. i.e. 1/4 T = Sold full price. T is unknown not sufficient.
Statement 2 itself is not sufficient.

So S1 and S2 together not sufficient. Hence ANS : E.

Is my interpretation of the problem has any issues ? OR is it toooo much of an assumption ?

Jump straight to . . .

Statements 1 and 2 combined
The combined statements tell us that 100 tickets sold for the full price of $25 each.
The remaining 300 tickets were sold at some reduced price.
Since we don't know the reduced price, there's no way to determine the total revenue from the sale of the 400 tickets
The combined statements are NOT SUFFICIENT

Answer: E
