All,
I'm thinking about applying to b schools next year to start my MBA in Fall 2014. I currently live in Nashville, TN, USA and both my wife and I wanna move back to the motherland. Since we wanna move back I'm looking at ISB,IIM-A and IIM-B for my MBA.
Here's my background and here's why I wanna go to b schools:
I have a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering. I worked as a post-doctoral research associate at an University for 3 years on an application oriented project and realized that universities rarely translate research directly to commercial products. Therefore, I switched over to work in industry. I'm working as a Research Scientist at a start up now where I get to translate my research to commercial products. I'm about to switch to another start up (will be the first employee if that works out) in a Lead Position. I plan to work for another year (so I will have 3 years of work ex in academics and 3 years in a corporate setting) and apply to business schools for the 2014 program. My goal is to take my research to India and start a company that caters to the Indian market. I however need to learn corporate finance and need to learn how to run a business in India before starting my own company and hence the thought of getting a MBA.
Given my career path and aspirations, is it a pipe dream for me to apply to b schools? I will be 35 when I start my MBA. Better late than never but will I be too old for Indian business schools?
Thanks in advance for all your replies
Firstly, I am very glad that you want to go back to your motherland and contribute to your community.
Secondly, I don't think age is too much of a concern. The plans post-MBA and the drive to achieve them matter more than age. I know of a lady who is 52 years old pursuing her MBA in ISB! Considering your plans, I am sure any bschool would be happy to have you.
All the best to you Sir!
