Re: McCombs (UT Austin) 2013 Calling All Applicants [#permalink]
Anyone have insight into how difficult it really is to get into the venture fellows program? It's a compelling reason for me to attend but the uncertainty of getting into the fellows program diminishes the attractiveness. So far I got accepted to CBS and am waiting for a couple more schools but I do like Austin and the Venture Fellows/Labs programs.

For round 1 they started releasing acceptances 8 days before the decision deadline. Anyone think we might start getting some round 2 acceptances today?

Yes! That's what I think. BUT one thing I noticed is that the R1 deadline for accepting or declining admission is Feb. 14, the day before the R2 notification date. So I wonder if fewer people will know early in R2 than in R1, because AdCom might make some final decisions right on Feb. 15.

My guess is that the February 14th deadline is more for scholarship consideration because those are offered out about three days after the admittance notices. I think McCombs would give themselves more breathing room than just decision day (morning) to make the final decisions.

I hope you're right, and I thought about that, but then I realized that they could have a ranked list of R2 candidates and they just then send out however many admits they need to according to ranking. Like if X number of R1s accept, then that means they accept Y number of R2s, waitlist Z number, etc.

Interesting thought. Yeah it's hard to say what their process is but I really would love to start seeing some decisions released. I've been feeling antsy for weeks now. An acceptance would be really nice after all the stress of applications.

I agree, rjdunn, antsy for weeks and have been counting down to today as the day when people might start to hear.

When I received my interview invite a couple of weeks ago it said that in order to render a decision by Feb 15 I would need to complete my interview by Feb 12. Therefore, I expect that since people are still interviewing, no decisions will be rendered until at least the 12th or 13th. But, I could be wrong.

Interesting, the interview invite I got said "Applicants who applied to McCombs in Round 2 should complete the interview before Wednesday January 23rd, 2013. (You may still schedule your interview on this day.)"

Wonder if they date they tell you depends on which wave of invites you were in?

Have any round 1 waitlisters seen any movement?

That's right mine had a deadline of jan 23 as well. I was invited to interview about 8 days after I submitted the app so it was quick. I'm sure staggering things makes it easier to process the applications. I'm still hoping they release some decisions today or tomorrow for those they interviewed in the first wave. I probably shouldn't hold my breath though.

So I just got an email from McCombs asking me additional questions about my future plans. Since I applied R2 and the acceptances should go out in the next week, I'm not sure this is a good sign. Asking me additional questions would indicate I'm on a bubble, yes? Being on the bubble this close to deadline feels dangerous.

Very interesting. What exactly did the e-mail say? Your future academic plans or your career plans?
If all they want to know is whether you've accepted admission elsewhere, it could be a good sign.
But if they want a better understanding of your S/T and L/T plans it could be a sign of something like a bubble.
I assume you interviewed already, right?

My ideal internship, my ideal job 10 years from now, and what I've been up to professionally since my last position ended (I had indicated that my last position was a short term engagement in my application). This feels like questioning my S/T and L/T plans. I interviewed in early January.

Interesting. It sounds like they are possibly trying to assess how clear your goals are and, honestly, whether you might be unemployed now. I don't know how the statistics work exactly but maybe it would impact the work experience profile of their admits? Just guessing here though.

Good luck! They wouldn't be contacting you if they weren't interested!
