Invited to interview.

I have no words for how amazing this week has been. After hearing almost nothing except for two dings for weeks, I can't believe it.

Although, I imagine a ding at this round is far far more painful. Best of luck.

Public transportation in Chicago is reliable and many Boothies use public transporation every day to get to school. There are a lot of factors that go into safety...Like where you're coming from and where you're going..if you're a single female walking by yourself in the dark...If you have to walk a ways to make your connection, etc.

I would say that if you're going from ORD to Hyde Park in one swoop during daylight there should be a very small chance of problems.

Agreed. I live in Chicago (and used to live in Hyde Park, in fact), and you have very little to worry about. Take the Blue line from ORD to downtown. Transfer to the 6, or whatever other bus Google Maps recommends for your timeframe. Or transfer to the Metra, which is apparently what Booth students typically use to commute. I'd recommend against taking the Green or Red line trains (especially Green) to Garfield/55th street if you're extra concerned about safety. But even then, you'd almost certainly be fine, especially during the day. These are all busy areas.

for those of you traveling to campus for your interview, how are you arranging for your lodging? are you booking a hotel, airbnb, staying with a friend, etc.?

I'm asking because a friend living in Chicago offered to host me, but I would be sleeping on the floor in a sleeping bag (it's a studio). I'm debating whether I should save $$ or just book a hotel and be comfortable just in case I get really tired from traveling and don't get a good night's rest before my interview.

Got so excited when I saw that there were weekend time slots on-campus! Meant no more sheepish request for another day off or paranoia about my Booth alum boss finding out one way or another :p

Now I just hope this second visit won't break bank. How much would you price line a semi-decent hotel in Chicago? Spent ~320 last visit on 2 night + flight, hope to go lower this time and probably only staying for one night. Need to save money for a potential third visit! :)

For people thinking about on-campus and lodging, keep in mind UChicago has tons of discounts and partnerships with hotels ranging from a free breakfast at a two-star hotel in Hyde Park to a free room upgrade at the Four Seasons.

If you want a cheap, no-frills option and don't care about getting the downtown experience, there's the International House on campus. A dorm-style room is $65/night, and the place is like 2 blocks from Booth's Hyde Park building.

Edit: If you have higher standards than I do, the "actual hotel"-style rooms there are also reasonably priced.

I am repeating myself but really GMAT is not all...

I've got the exact same GMAT stats as you. What are your strong suits that helped you get interview invites? I'm still waiting to hear from Wharton =/

Late posting .. invited for interview .. still deciding between on-campus or off-campus ... travelling from India, and also have the Wharton interview so I am inclined to come ... except for the time and cost factor!

I'm staying with a close friend from college and crashing at her place. I'd see if there's anyone else in your network currently in the city whom you could ask for a favor.

The Chicago Booth School invited me for an interview... Took a reasoned calculation to substitute one of my traditional recommendation letter authors with my father so as to provide more recent work observations... Justified the move with the addendum essay option... And, think that might have been the difference maker... It's still a weakness in my application, but they likely wouldn't send me an interview invitation if that shortcoming in my candidacy couldn't be overcome by a stellar interview performance... Time to do so...
