Hey Everyone,
I took the GMAT this past week. I scored a 640. I scored a 650 and 690 on the two GMAT Prep exams I took last week. I prepped for almost two months. I was pretty dissapointed with the score, but not overly upset (it wasn't too far out of the range). I felt
as though I was capable of answering every question, but my timing was really off (especially on the verbal). I thought I was too nervous and kept second guessing myself. I rescheduled another exam for next month because I felt as though I understood the material, but I just need to improve my timing. I'm sure I'm not the first person on this website to be nervous and screw up the timing on their first real gmat. I just need some advice on what all I should do between now and my next exam. I don't think I really lack the grasp on any one topic. Another detail if this helps anyone with their analysis or advice: I took the exam at 3:30 in the afternoon, and it was kind of awkward sitting around all day thinking about the exam. I'm more of a morning person anyways. One random question I was wondering: which type of question on verbal (SC, RC, or CR) would it be best to guess on?
Hi jppaa,
As you are a morning person, I guess this time you have scheduled the test for morning this time. I am not so much of a morning person so I took my test at 2 pm. A comfortable timing will soothe your nerves to some extent.
The best thing that you can do to improve on timing will be to take timed tests (short as well as full CATs). I am sure you must be having some weak areas; work on them in this period. Second try to stick to official questions from
OG, GMATPrep and the ones from the CAT tests that you may have taken. If you have taken the GMATPrep tests just once or twice, then take 2-3 retakes + analysis during the last two weeks of your prep. As far as the random guessing is concerned, all the question types may turn out to be equally probable while guessing. To have a better understanding of the various testing scenarios and guessing strategies for GMAT, have a look at the "GMATPrep software analysis and what if scenarios" (link to this post is in my signature).
Hope this helps,
Vercules
