Wow! Unique indeed! Just my 2 cents.

You should definitely point the error out to them. If the error is completely on their side, they should move you to the 2 year MBA waitlist.

Expressing interest in the 1 year MBA program at this point does not sound like a good idea to me.

I had applied for a 2 year MBA, but have been waitlisted for 1 year program.

From what I see, I have 2 options:

Option 1. I point the error out to them.

I believe two things can happen here:

a. They might take me off the waitlist for 1 year (as they might feel I might not be interested in 1 year program) and reject me for the 2 year program as well to avoid the hassle.

b. They move me to the 2 year waitlist. In this case, my peer group would be different, evaluation process might be different, scoring might be different. I am not sure if they would re-evaluate me completely again. I dont know if this is even a possiblity.

Some basic stats from 2012:
1 year MBA: 500 applicants, 100 admits (I believe a higher quality apps here attributable to higher savings, lack of any alternatives in terms of 1 yr programs from other top schools)
2 year MBA: 4500 applicants, 550 admits

Option 2. I provide updates and reiterate an interest in 1 year program:

Not sure how this would work out. I am not sure how much movement there is on 1 year MBA waitlist. Kellogg pretty much has a monopoly in this space and there might be very few dropouts.

Any thoughts on how to proceed?

I agree with the previous comment - point out the error if it's on their end!

Hey guys,

Submitted my application for R3 and got an interview invite today with an alum. I am currently not in the country I requested to be interviewed in and so was thinking of asking for a waiver. The email said that it wouldnt affect my application negatively and they may give me phone interview from the adcom if need be.

My question: should i make the effort to go to the city I asked to be interviewed in OR should I tell them that I cannot make it for some reason and request for a waiver and subsequently a phone interview?
Also, have they actually seen my application at all before giving me an interview or do they just invited everyone? Makes me think as I had just applied 8 days ago.

I would do that which has a better impact on my application.

Thx

They haven't seen your application yet - if they grant an interview waiver they will begin reviewing your application and interview you if they like what they see the way other schools invite candidates to interview.

If you interview first, the input will be included with the rest of your application materials to be reviewed at the same time. Is asking for an interview in the current city you're in an option?

The question here is if you want to guarantee yourself an interview.

Unless it would be a serious financial burden, I would try to make it to the interview. For me, I thought my interview went so well that it made my application/candidacy stronger. If I had waived my interview, I don't know that I would've gotten an invitation to interview later.

Oh if they havent even seen my application yet, making the effort of going to another country for an interview is asking for a bit much. I would have been more enthusiastic to travel if i knew i was among the shortlisted ones.

Leaning more towards asking for a waiver. As it is they say that it would not affect my application negatively. And am not so sure that I can dazzle them in my interview to put me up a notch.

And no..asking for another interview location is not an option. They say the locations are final. The only next option is a waiver.

I submitted part 2 five days ago.

Does anyone know if the portal closes exactly at 11:59 cst? If we are logged in at that time, are we able to upload documents after 11:59?

I'm obviously a little behind the ideal schedule. Thanks!

Thanks! I was able to get it in, but just received an interview waiver :(. I am in NYC, so not remote. Hoping I might get a phone interview because I would really love the opp to interview.

I am relatively new to this thread. Did many people receive phone invites after an initial waiver in previous rounds?

I submitted R3 applicantion on the deadline, and received an interview invite over the weekend. Interesting, that you live in NYC and received a waiver - I would imagine that there are lot of alums in your area. Maybe, your profile is strong enough even w/o an interview, so they just trying to save themselves some time.

There are, though, a lot of folks in NYC, and thus quite a few NYC applicants. It's possible that the # of alums who conduct interviews is just too few for the number of applicants from this year.

Long story short: Don't worry too much about it. Hope for a future interview, but know that as of now, a waiver doesn't mean anything — good or bad.
