Hello. I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on registration into some fairly costly classes to build an alternate transcript for myself. Given my record, I'm pretty sure this is the right move; I'm just looking for some reassurance before I sign the check....
stats:
GPA: 3.4 state school, ECON major (3.6 GPA) BUT unfortunately that's not the whole story...
About 25% of my credits on that state school transcript are advanced standing from a "near-ivy" that I attended for approx 2.5 years on and off after high school. My transcript from that institution is really bad... Not a dramatic story or anything, I was just very immature at the time and didn't care about school. Ah, to be 19 again! Anyway, that's what's driving me to the decision to build an alternate transcript.
Thanks very much for your thoughts!
There is no doubt that recent A's in business related classes can only help and certainly can't hurt anything. However, if you have 25% of
dismal grades from youth and ended up with a 3.4, then you must have had a serious upward trend in grades. If your GMAT is also high, then it may not be
necessary to take these classes. My response also depends on the schools you intend to apply to. If you're aiming at a school with an average GPA at matriculation of 3.67 (like HBS), it's probably a good idea. If you aiming at a school with a GPA at matriculation of 3.38 (like Fisher), it's unnecessary, especially if your GMAT is competitive.
I'm not sure this is the answer you wanted, but that's how I see it.
