To current MBA students, how do you network BEFORE your MBA

To current MBA and alums - one frequent advice I often receive is that it's very useful to network before the MBA program starts.

But sitting in Asia, how do you guys start off the process, if you want to work in the US post-MBA? (I will be matriculating in Fall 2013).

Any inputs will be much appreciated!

We can start rite here. Plz introduce urself so that ppl knw who u are n they come frwd. Networking starts anywhere.

Linkdin is great. I have had a lot of success talking with graduating 2nd year students in my program. I think if you introduce yourself and say "I will be attending your school in the fall and I would love an opportunity to talk with you" most of them will be willing to help you.

my understanding is that networking is really about building relationships. Recent graduates of your program have probably been in your shoes, they want to help. At least that has been my experience. Plus, a lot of them will look favorably at you trying to get things started at this stage.

usually there are events as well arranged by the school in the country (of course this depends highly on the school's efforts) to attract new applicants. On those events they usually invite alumni from the school that works in the country; so be sure to attend and network in the event; they could be help for future network on the job market as well.
