Hi,

I am not in the finance field right now but I have a finance undergrad degree, and I want to get an MBA to move into finance, preferably in the tech industry. I know that Stern, CBS, and Wharton are great in finance so I want to go there, but what other research will help me so I can find out if these schools are a good fit for me, and which one I would prefer? I've been reading everything on their websites and they are all great, but are there any books that I can buy that give me the low down on these schools? Every book I've found on this site tells me how to get into business school, rather than finding the right school to apply to. Thanks for any help!

Hi Financefella,
You have rightly said that Stern, CBS, and Wharton are great for pursuing a career in Finance. For exactly understanding which school would be fit for you, you can do internet research. Do read about the qualities these schools look for in their students. Interact with the alumni of these schools. Read the interview and school-life experience of people who made it to these schools. Some people have shared their experience in gmatclub.

You should check out the Poets & Quants comparison of NYU and Columbia. https://poetsandquants.com/2010/08/16/new-york-universitys-stern-school-vs-columbia-business-school/ It's a decent comparison of the two programs in New York.

As for who sends more of its graduates into finance, Wharton, Booth and Stern have consistently been the top 3 in the US. Maybe you could cross reference that with who performs well in producing tech-specific grads. Good luck!

Can someone explain huge salary discrepancy after 10 years between schools?

At least on finance, you are looking at 177K vs 145K for median 10-20 years.

I am not allowed to post links or sources, but it was from Bloomberg -> b school rankings -> profile which had payscale statistic.

Why don't you speak to a couple of alums or students at the two schools and figure out? I'm sure many have been in your shoes before and would be able to help you out.

Log on to www[dot]CallPlato[dot]com to connect with students and alums at CBS and Stern. I'm sure thats the easiest and most reliable way of actually learning the nuances between the two schools.
