IMO : B

The Mc Tosh tyre Company uses a special type of tyre that does not get punctured easily. It is the only company in the U.S. which offers such tyres. Some other tyre manufacturers in the U.S. import such tyres from Europe where it is produced by some companies. Now some U.S. based manufacturers are pondering over the idea of producing such tyres.

Which of these options can be properly concluded from the above paragraph?

At least some companies in the U.S. will soon start producing tyres, which do not get punctured easily no - (There is no fact that shows US companies will start producing such tires)
At least some companies in Europe manufacture such tyres. yes - we can conclude from the fact
Europe is far ahead than the U.S. in terms of tyre technology. no - Like european companies, Mc Tosh company also produce such tyres so we dont who is good
Europe is the only place from where American manufacturers imports tyres which do not get punctured easily. no
American vehicle owners demand better tyres for their vehicles. no - out of scope

Not sure of the answer ..

At least some companies in Europe manufacture such tyres.
B - restates the premise

Europe is far ahead than the U.S. in terms of tyre technology.
Also we cannot conclude that Europe is ahead of US in tyre technology - there may be some other feature in US tyre that offer better performance than Europe. We cannot assume it.

Can we select the thing that is stated in premise for conclusion quesitons????

A) At least some companies in the U.S. will soon start producing tyres, which do not get punctured easily.
- What we know from the passage is that the Some US based companies are PONDERING over the idea, but We don't know whether ANYONE will start manufacturing soon. Thus Incorrect.

B) At least some companies in Europe manufacture such tyres.
Clearly mentioned in the stimuli "Europe where it is produced by some companies". Thus Correct

C) Europe is far ahead than the U.S. in terms of tyre technology.
Just based on technology of one type of tyres, we can not conclude that Europe is ahead of US in tyre technology. Thus Incorrect

D) Europe is the only place from where American manufacturers imports tyres which do not get punctured easily.
We know that importers import tyres from EUROPE , but we can't conclude that Europe is only importer. Thus Incorrect

E) American vehicle owners demand better tyres for their vehicles.
What is the definition of BETTER? We don't know for sure from the stimuli. Thus Incorrect

Re: The Mc Tosh tyre Company uses a special type of tyre that [#permalink]
I agree with you that the answer choice should be (B). Here is my reasoning:

(A) At least some companies in the U.S. will soon start producing tyres, which do not get punctured easily. -From the stimulus, we don't know whether US companies besides Mc Tosh tyre Company will produce the tyres. We are only given the fact that some US companies are pondering over the idea of producing such tyres.
(B) At least some companies in Europe manufacture such tyres. - This can be directly inferred from the stimulus, which states, "Some other tyre manufacturers in the U.S. import such tyres from Europe where it is produced by some companies."
(C) Europe is far ahead than the U.S. in terms of tyre technology. - We don't know this fact because the stimulus doesn't state anything about it. Alternatively, more companies in Europe produce this type of tyre than US counterpart does. From this fact, we can not infer that Europe is far ahead than the U.S. in terms of tyre technology.
(D) Europe is the only place from where American manufacturers imports tyres which do not get punctured easily. - We simply don't know this fact. However, if the stimulus were to state, "ALL other tyre manufacturers in the U.S. import such tyres from Europe where it is produced by some companies," this choice would be correct.
(E) American vehicle owners demand better tyres for their vehicles. -The stimulus does not say anything about American vehicle owner so this choice is incorrect.

At least some companies in the U.S. will soon start producing tyres, which do not get punctured easily.
---- The U.S. based manufacturers are pondering .. that does not mean they will necessarily start to produce..!!

At least some companies in Europe manufacture such tyres.
---- Some other tyre manufacturers in the U.S. import such tyres from Europe where it is produced by some companies--- This is a good one..!!! Correct...

Europe is far ahead than the U.S. in terms of tyre technology.
---- If many companies product tyres in Europe as compared to U.S , that does not mean Europe is far ahead than U.S in terms of technology.. Also, we don't know about the technology used to product the tyre in both the countries.

Europe is the only place from where American manufacturers imports tyres which do not get punctured easily.
---- "Only" is nowhere mentioned in the argument...

American vehicle owners demand better tyres for their vehicles.
----American vehicle owners nowhere mentioned.. out of Scope

My take B....

Thanks,
Jai

Clearly an inference question. I would go with option E.
Since the demand for such tyres is increasing, therefore other tyre manufacturers in U.S. import them from Europe and are pondering over the idea of producing such tyres

looks like option B is correct answer, but is it not restating the premise. And not concluding anything.

I must admit that I do not like this particular problem. mahendru1992 is correct that on these problems we want to draw a conclusion that "must be true" based on the premises in the argument. On the GMAT, these "must be true" answers will not be simple restatements of a premise like we see here. The conclusions you will be asked to draw will be (at times very weak) assertions that flow from the premises. Here is a example framework: For the main event to take place, sub-events A & B must happen first. Sub-event A is virtually assured, but sub-event B is doubtful. What can we conclude? That the main event is in doubt...

I was stuck with B & D for long time. "Some other tyre manufacturers in the U.S. import such tyres" that piece of statement says that some US companies imports such tyres from Europe. I feel that, this means no other US companies import such tyres from any other place. So, D can be correct.
One important thing is, we need to find a proper conclusion. Answer B seems to just restate what is mentioned in the question. So, Answer for me is D.

Re: The Mc Tosh tyre Company uses a special type of tyre that [#permalink]
The only logical answer is B because

A: Pondering does not equal Will
C: Way too aggressive statement and can be refuted in many ways
D: Some US companies import from Europe... not ALL
E: Not related at all

However my problem with answer B is that US import tyre from Europe where the tyre is produced by some companies. This does NOT ALWAYS mean the tyre is produced in Europe or companies in Europe produce them. It is POSSIBLE that Europe imported from somewhere else or made finishing touches on the product and then export to the US. But B would be my choice if I see this question on the exam.

I am sorry to say i agree with E.

Option A nd B both states the Premise. What can be concluded from the passage is.

Read out the last sentence " Some other tyre manufacturers in the U.S. import such tyres from Europe where it is produced by some companies. Now some U.S. based manufacturers are pondering over the idea of producing such tyres ". Why the companies are interested to manufacture tyres at USA ? Because of increased demand

So read the option D - American vehicle owners demand better tyres for their vehicles.

Because of increased demand they need are pondering to manufacture tyres.

Hence OA- E

Please correct the OA

Thanks

I think with answer E, you're making a few assumptions outside the context of the argument.

1. You are assuming that these tires are for American vehicle owners. (It's a possibility but could also be for the Police, Army vehicles, Trucking companies who may prefer long lasting tires...etc)

2. You are assuming this special tyre is better. It's a tyre that doesn't get punctured easily but doesn't mean it's better than other types of tyre. Does it work well in the snow? Has a strong gripe on the road? Perform suitable for race track? There are run-flat tires in the market now that can keep going for hundreds of miles even if it's punctured. I don't think there is enough information.
