I am glad to see more interet in Arizona/Eller.

As I recall, they seek at least two years in a "professional capacity." They repeatedly stress that they are looking for candidates with "Professional experience demonstrating challenging assignments, career progression, carefully considered goals, and a strong work ethic."

Further, note that they have Business Field Project as part of the core in which students work together on a consulting project. This is often not a good sign for high potential/low experience students since schools might doubt the ability of HP/LE students carry their share of the weight in this type of setting.

"B AD 597a: Business Field Projects (3 units)
Small teams of students work together to finalize scope, plan, and execute a project for an organization to deliver value to them. Teams work in consultation with a faculty member who is a relevant subject matter expert."

Of course, the best course of action is to contact Eller directly.

Hi Hjort.....i m a comp engg...from INdia...2005 passout.
I hv applied to eller for MS in MIS....can u plz evaluate my chances....
I hv already applied to them with my GRE scores and 2day i gv my GMAT.

Profile :-
B.E Comps- AVG 57 %
- Final year 65 %
TOEFL -290
GRE - 1340 (Q=770 , V=570)
GMAT - 680 (Q=48, V=35)
Work-ex - 5 mths.....will be 1 yr by Fall.
- designation- web designer

Projects- 1> WEB WIZARD done at GTL ltd in final year.
2> two s/w summer projects done in private companies.
3> few other projects as part of curriculum.

Extra- Curricular- Many but all in sports.(International level)
Recos - 1. from dept. HOD
2. from project guide
3. from employer.

I think my work ex shold not be a problem coz its not a pre requisite for MS in MIS and most pepl applyin r freshers. also i know my GMAt score isn't d best...but me think will do for MS in MIS.(not MBA).

Wot do u think are my chances??? eller is my dream school . one of the best places for MIS. U think i hv a good chance.
Other univs i hv applied r IUB Bloomington , Brigham Young univ, TAMU college staion.

PLz do reply. this is d only place where pepl know abt B-schools.

My first two years were really horrible.... but then onwards it has increased steadily(52,54,56,63,68) and in final sem it was 7th rank in class but overall rank over 4 years is not known but i msure it wont be dat good. There is no definate rank given by college.

The topper was arnd 72 % . i m from mumbai universty.

PLz do comment on my chances in other univs dat i hv mentioned.
And thanx for the prompt reply.

The only issue I see is the undergraduate performance, otherwise you seem like a strong candidate for Eller. Which programs do you apply to at IUB, BYU, and TAMU?

I m applyin to same program at all Univs ....MS in MIS .
IS there any chance they might make note of the fact dat i gv GMAt jus so dat i cld get into MS MIS. coz atleast 90% pepl i know are applyin to the same program but with GRE scores.(Though the univ website mentions dat they prefer GMAt over GRE). Others i know are applyin with GRE because they are applyin to MS in CS at other Univs. While my motive to take GMAT was because i was applyin to only MS MIS program. IS my GMAT score good enough to cover up for my mediocre acads ???

Also , i m not sure but most pepl who gv GMAt wld like to go for MBA, so i guess there wont be many competing for the Univs with their GMAT scores.....Is this true ??

Accordin me Eller is the place to go 4 MIS.....but hw wld u rank these Univs.....

---Univ of Arizona (Eller)
--- IUB (Kelley)
---TAMU(Mays)
---BYU(Marriot)...not yet applied
---Iowa state Univ...not yet applied
---Oklahoma state univ (Spear)...got admit
---Univ of Cincinnati...got admit

PLZ suggest any other Univs for my profile??

ALso since i hv not applied to BYU and IOWA state, while applyin to them shld i mention me GRE score (1340).?? or u think it might not create a good impression ??
Also shld i retake GMAT in JAn ...try to break 7XX barrier..will it make a big diff?

Thanx for prompts replies.....They are really encouraging

Hi HJORT...

i m kinda confused. Plz help me decide betweeen these two...

1> IOWA state Univ.....MS MIS
2> Maryland college park ....MS Information management

i m thinkin of removin one of these from my list and applyin to CMU instead.

Also plz comment on my chances in other univs in my list ....(especially IUB and BYU).

hi HJORT,
i got admit from Eller for MS-MIS. However, now i hv a good head-ache. I hv got 6 admits till now......

1. Univ of Arizona (Eller)...admit
2. IUB (Kelley)....admit with 9500$ aid
3. CMU......admit
4. TAMU (Mays)....admit
5. Univ of Cincinnati...admit with 6000$ aid
6. OSU (Spears)

Well , out of these i hv shortlisted Eller , CMU, Kelley.....i hv to decide between these 3.

Eller.....Ranked 1 for MIS...but i feel the corse is a bit too techy....i wanted more balance between business and techno courses. However, good placements but again more techy jobs like System Analyst.
I want to enter something like Management Consulting or Strategic Management.

CMU.....best placements but really expensive .....17500$ per sem.
i really wanna go here but the cost is scaring me.

Kelley.....Good course but dont know much abt their placements or job profiles of their MS-IS graduates.

Plz help me out Hjort......help me decide. Do Give ur opinion.
