I was expecting more in the range of 680, ended up with 640.
Didn’t manage time efficiently, as a result had to guess 2 in Quant and about 4-5 in Verbal.
I got to know about this forum a month ago. All the information on this forum was/is very helpful. I would like to thank all the contributors (I am one of those guilty ones who didn’t contribute).
I was targeting part time MBA. Since I worked on weekdays, I mostly studied over the weekends. I studied for about 2-2.5 months - on Sat/Sun basis. Though tried to brush and refresh my skills during weekdays by solving about 20-25 problems.
Study Material: OG11, Browsed through Princeton and Kaplan
Practice tests:
Kaplan: 550,570,550
GmatPrep: 630,680
Power prep: 710 (5-7 repeat
OG problems)
Well-while practicing I never guessed any problem until and unless I was falling short on time. Whenever I had to guess verbal problems (because of time trouble) I always got them wrong, the only exception being the 710 score (I got some of them correct).
My philosophy was either you know how to solve or you don’t. If you don’t then you need to work on your weakness. Having said that I worked on my weakness SC-Idioms, I was under the impression that I was getting better and better, apparently I did not.
While practicing, my heart was telling me > 700, while my brain was telling me 650-680.
Quant was always my strong point, hence I am bit disappointed with my score. I wanted to score above 50 (o-well probably chasing a dream). But I was very consistent with my quant score, I was scoring 49 right through out the practice tests.
Verbal was my weak point, but I was expecting atleast 35 or more. Believe it or not RC was my strength, while practicing (tests) I was scoring on an average 11/13 correct. CR was in between while the SC was pathetic –to be precise I was good with all other variations except idioms. Always had problems with Idioms.
Test day:
Arrived early, started the test early. Started with AWA and then moved on to Quant. Apparently fell short on time in Quant. During my practice test I used to finish Quant with 2 minutes to spare. Didn’t face any probability or any tough problems.
I think it took some time for my brain to get upto the speed. The erasable notepad was ok except for my hand (marker ink!!).
Verbal started well, and felt that I was doing good but in the middle part starting falling behind the asking rate. Had to solve 8 problems in 10 mins. Hence I had to guess about 4-5 very quickly. Faced 4 RC, few CR and lots of SC. I guess the test figured out that SC was my weakness.
Looking back, those 2 quant problems and 4-5 verbal problems (which I had to guess) made all the difference.
I don’t know if this score -640 is good enough for part time MBA at Kellog’s or UIC.
Guys need your help; I would like to know if this score is good enough for applying part time at Kellog’s or UIC. Is there any forum that discusses this issue? Your feedback will be greatly appreciated.
On a side note: the force was not with me…or …I didn’t use the force correctly.
