hey impulsive, Congratulations!!! ....terrific score!!!

I have started daydreaming about the day I will take 780 :-D

I will write a detailed debrief in 1-2 days but remember that it pays a lot to focus on concepts than going for short cuts. There are NO short cuts in GMAT and most books are written for average GMAT test takers as publishers are more interested in selling their books to rest of 90% student segment than to top 10% test takers.

As far as my experience is concerned, all the credit goes to Manhattan GMAT books and I am happy to follow a recommendation made by someone on this forum to use those books and that literally turned around everything for me.

Thanks a lot

Re: 780 - My third attempt [#permalink]

Hi everyone,

Pleased to share the result of my third attempt - a 780 finally after 660 each in first two attempts.

My first attempt was a year and a half ago and I had prepared for 3 weeks only relying heavily on prep book strategies like eliminating wrong choices and using lots of other strategies which differ from one book to another book.

The second attempt was three months ago but I got busy with a few personal projects and I really should have canceled that appointment but I went ahead and repeated the earlier score and was totally disappointed.

This attempt was made after thorough preparation of 3 months (at least 20 or more hours a week) and instead of relying on typical prep books, I decided to learn all the concepts involved in GMAT a bit more in detail. I bought each of the eight Manhattan GMAT book series and they are very right in saying that there is no guesswork in GMAT if you are looking at a serious score target. You need to eliminate all the useless guessing techniques taught by various GMAT prep books and rather spend that time learning the basic concepts in math, geometry, grammer etc.

I wasn't hoping for a 780 and my target was to join 700 club but extremely excited about my score and believe that this score would improve my chances to get into a good school.

Thanks for all the help!

wow excellent and impressive score.

Congrats.

I envy your score. what are your targets? your profile?

best of luck... :flower

Congrats on your score!!! I'm glad to see someone else used the whole set of MGMAT books, I think the SC book overshadows the other books and not enough people bother with all of them. Are you planning to apply for fall '08?

this thread is useless and a cheap plug for MGMAT if you dont elaborate on your study strategy.

But here you say you scored 660 and then 740,

So which is it... 660, 740 or 780? :)

Why do some people feel compelled to lie in an anonymous forum? Ego boost? Character flaw? Get chicks?

Maybe its to intimidate other people who are applying. BW forums seem to be have several people putting out misinformation and trying to persuade others not to bother with certain places. Some I have read some that come across as people who are probably applying to that school and are trying to talk others with similar profiiles out of applying.
