Darden had its first day of orientation type courses - tomorrow is the real deal. We spend tonight preparing cases though. Seems like it is going to be pretty tough but it has been a lot of fun so far.

i was under the impression chicago and wharton havent started yet

wharton started August 1st (mandatory pre-term.) So far it is awesome!!! a ton of fascinating people and since "real" classes have not started, there has been at least one party to go to every night.

I start at HBS on Sept 4th. Some people are currently at the pre-MBA courses, but I was not required to attend any, so I spent my time skiing, instead...

Looking at the schedule, however, orientation week looks intense.

you all suck. we southerners have been busting hump for a bit yet. in fact, this week is final's week! I've got two finals at the end of the week, plus 3 case write-ups. Midterm quizzes and 2 other cases last week. UNC had it even worse, starting well before we did.

Can anyone explain to me why southern schools tend to start earlier? I can assure all of you -- August in North Carolina ain't fun.

Now that some of you are getting settled in and unpacked, how are the locals treating you? Has anyone gone into the local town or city and been getting bad vibes from others? I always wondered if people living around certain B-schools, but not associated with them in any way, feel any ill temper towards these newly admitted students moving into their neighborhood for two years and then leaving suddenly when they graduate.

I don't think that is really an issue. Most students in general tend to move, transfer, step up, etc.

I haven't heard of this, but so far Darden and Charlottesville have lived up to their reputations as great places to live and study.

This is true - Vandy started on the 20th, after a week-long orientation.

We are certainly into the thick of things at this point!

Also, I believe Nashville had at least 6 record high temperatures since i've been down here.
