I already have an idea about this answer and I've read their website, but Cornell doesn't seem to have a specific niche.

What do you think Cornell is known for? Stereotypes or actual strengths?

career switchers -- does that count? Other than that I would say finance and general management.

If I remember correctly, that section is quite short. You won't have much room there. Consider this one a little nugget of flavor. Last year, I listed a few hobbies and then wrote a couple sentences about one in particular: working on my house, which was a fixer-upper we'd bought in Ithaca. I wanted to point out to them that I was quite committed to Ithaca - Cornell is yield-conscious. Of course, they didn't give me enough money, so I put the house on the market a week later and off to Durham I went.

If you got a W (withdrawal) in a class, do you include this in the transcript form?

Because I got a W in some classes, I don't receive the credit, but the form is still adding up those credits and assuming I earned them.

You can't manually delete the credit? It's not something you want to leave out - when they see your real transcript, they might think you purposefully tried to mislead them.

That's what I have so far, a WD but a blank under credit.

I don't understand, it shouldn't affect your gpa. It would just be a slight neg on your transcript. We all have em. I used to register for the max amount of credits knowing full well that I would drop a class -- there's always that one psycho professor.

Question:

I have a 3.6

But my senior year, I had a sub 3.0 gpa (2.85ish) mainly because I had 3 part time jobs and major senioritis. Should I address this in the optional essay, or leave it be?

I would.

But I wouldn't say it was because of your part time jobs. I would mention the jobs, but this issue isn't so big that you should make excuses.

If you word it wrong the adcomm thinks you're making excuses.

WOW! I didn't expect them to be this high... sucks that two of my three schools I'm applying to have such low acceptance rates (Stanford <10%, Haas around 14-15%)

He is doing first year PhD in Computer Science in Cornell. I'm from overseas, will be applying for MBA or MSc for Fall 2008.
