I am so puzzled with this question :stupid2

The tissues of the human body are constantly moistened by a briny
solution thought life emerged.

(A)to be of about the same salinity as the primoridal sea from which
(B)of as about the same salinity like the primordial sea outof which
(C)to be about the same salinity as the primoridal sea from where
(D)of as about the same salinity as the primordial sea from where
(E)to be of about the same salinity like the primordial sea from which



Please explain your response -if possible-

FA is D

"thought to be" indicates that it is currently something different - where as "thought of as" indicates that there is a analogy that is going to follow (I am not a guru...so I can be with you afife76)

I think it's A.

Issues here: solution of the same salinity as the sea - idiom 'same as'

B & E are out - both use 'same... like' which is unidiomatic

C - wrong - 2 issues

(C) to be [1. of] about the same salinity as the primoridal sea (2)from where

(1) 'of' is missing and somehow I feel it's necessary to convey the correct meaning

(2) 'from where' - should indicate a place - in this case it does not, as the 'primoridal sea' is not a place, but rather a theory about a substance from which life emerged

D - wrong, same as #2 above

I am confused here, help is appreciated...

Primordial sea is not a substance, it is not a specific place, agreed, but its not a substance

Primordial means that it belongs to the earliest stages of development.

So primordial sea, is when the sea was in its earliest stages of development. but the adjective is not too important I think, the noun is the sea, and "where" should be correct.

I am still trying to understand which one to use

Nice explanation smashing! Just to add:
"of the same... as" means it's made up of the same kind as something else --> we are here talking about the body and the primordial sea which are made up of the same salinity

"the same...as" compares similarity between two objects.
Ex: the same pen as I used for the exam. --> the same as the one I used for the exam
