speaking of harvard, does anyone know if this year's b-school applicantions were part of the data lost to hackers? the article i read indicated that the info. stolen was from grad apps to the college of arts and sciences, but it did not appear as though the reporter, nor harvard was fully aware of the extent of the hacking (no mention of the b-school). apparently the server was not encrypted, making it easy to hack. way to eff up harvard -- you have the largest university endowment in the world and you can't even bother to protect your applicants.
I don't think this year's applicants will be affected. My girlfriend is currently a first year in the biology PhD program and she received notice about this. It specifically stated applicants for the 2007-2008 school-year were affected. It seems that it is specific to the arts/sciences school, but it also mentioned the hacker having access to GMAT scores, so maybe the business school was also hit. Either way, you're fine.
On a related nerve-racking note, a Harvard grad student (dept of classics) was killed yesterday when crossing a street in Central Square. A big rig driver didn't see him in the intersection (drivers always whip around this turn without looking...really pisses me off). Very sad.
