Re: Lower GMAT scores aint end of story [#permalink]
Average GMAT for topschools is around 690, this implies that HALF of the ADMITTED students have lower scores!
GMAT score IS just one of the so many requirements...I too was blinded by this 700 score and was going to retake my test (first time 670 and not a native speaker) but just canceled it after speaking to current students of a top ten school. As long as you are in the range it's fine, move on and take care of what really counts, the essays.

Most of the time, 600 is acceptable when you can differentiate yourself through other parts of your application.

edit: but hey this is the gmatclub forum, not "mbaapplication"

I think you're looking for the median. Pretty much the same thing.

Excellent post. Many candidates don't realize that GMATs is only one of the factors. People assume a high GMAT score is heavily weighted. I am not sure if that's true. Everyone is hellbent on getting 750's, which if you can do in 1-2 months of prep time, then more power to you. But definitely focus on community service/volunteering. If you resume sucks, get another job! A 750 won't compensate for a lack of experience. B-schools look to admit people who are employable at the end of 2 yrs of study. Think of admittance to a elite/super-elite school from that perspective.
