Sorry it didn't work out, nick and livehard (livehard, do you think you'll stay on the WL?).

Congrats TJ! You have a tough decision ahead :)

I'll stay on but it'll likely be a half-hearted attempt. Given the odds (and my sanity), it is probably time to start moving on.

I appreciate the condolences.

Congrats on the admit TJ! Livehard, the decision you have to make is tough but a good one nonetheless. I was WL at MIT today without an interview and even though it is only a WL I am really excited. I was convinced I was going to get dinged so I consider this a miracle. Pathetic, I know, but I only have two WLs to show for this season. Just hoping one of them comes through. Anyway, hopefully the people who received bad news today have other options available to them.

Thanks everyone for the congrats...it has been a long road :?

clarksdv2...I will have to pick your brain on what you've learned about biotech at MIT, since my goal is to get into corp dev/gen management in the pharma/biotech sector. I really have to research the opportunities in this area at MIT that are outside of BEP. I believe that a lot of the BEP courses are available to regular Sloanies too (except the seminar series and of course the clinical/biomed courses) but I will have to check into this. Have you gathered very much information on life science recruiting at MIT? I'll have to wait until the end of the week to get my admit password and hopefully I will be able to gather a lot more info once I have access to the site.

Re: Calling all MIT Sloan 2008 applicants [#permalink]
Almost all the biotech centric classes can be taken by non BEP students, and it is the same deal for E & I classes. There is no priority given to either BEP students for biotech centric classes or E & I students with entrepreneurship classes. E & I only have the seminar during core and the Silicon Valley trip all to their own. BEP only has a few of the HST classes to themselves. You can take up to 2 of the HST classes as well for electives as long as you meet the MBA requirements. Those in short are: required core (45 credits) with finance or marketing first semester (9 credits) followed by three semesters of a total of 144 MBA elective credits and that includes the 1st semester marketing or finance class. You can't take more than 54 credits a semester so this leaves you with 27 credits to work with. So, you could take two of the medical courses like hematology as well as cell and molecular immunology for 12 credits each, just an example. The only caveat with taking classes outside of Sloan is permission of the instructor, but I can't imagine unless the class was in high demand that you couldn't get a seat.

Cambridge is a mecca of VC and life science startups as well as established players like Novartis, Genzyme, etc. The opportunities are certainly there. I know BEP students getting into VC, McK's life science practice just to name a few. I have pretty good ties to the Sloan community currently and I'll let you know whatever else I find out.

Ding for me too. But without the interview it's no surprise. I am very happy with Ross anyway. Good luck to all Sloanies...
Livehard, are you going to the GBR?

Sorry to hear about the dings... :( But all of you are in great schools already, so be happy that you don't have to make a difficult decision! :)

Just a quick question: could one of the 2008 applicants post the 2008 essays on here? It'd help me a lot! BONUS: If you applied to LFM and could post any additional LFM essays, I'd be eternally grateful.

They're still on the site...

https://mitsloan.mit.edu/mba/admissions/applicationinstructions.php

The cover letter is a mainstay of the Sloan application. The other questions vary a bit (I can't speak to the LFM essays), but they always start with "Tell us about a time..." Sloan is big into concrete examples in both their essays and interviews.

Re: Calling all MIT Sloan 2008 applicants [#permalink]
I have some stats to show how difficult this last application cycle was at MIT. Rod Garcia stated that there was "just under 4000 applicants" for the class of 2010. There are 537 admits total. Just to be conservative I'll assume there were 3900 applications. This translates into 13.78% admit rate. Everyone both admits and those who weren't so fortunate, it was a tough year. Just put this number in perspective last year's admit rate was 19.7%. Heck HBS's number last year was 13.8%.
