Basically, why do PT's get shunned from recruiting.

One of the biggest reasons I decided to pursue my PT MBA is that I will beable to use what I learn in the workplace the next day, etc...

My problem at my job right now is that even though I took high level accounting and finance course... I can't remember a damn thing. I know ive seen these statements before... but thats about as far as I get. I've basically had to relearn so much of what I learnd not too long ago in college.

Personally, I think this direct usage with the PT is a great thing and I don't know why company's haven't caught onto this.

I understand company's hire FT's b/c its easier on recruiting (internship, extra time, etc...) But why isn't there more interest in the PT's???

I want some more input on this, b/c maybe im just being onesided.

I am no expert but at most schools PT and FT recruiting is completely separate. If you are staying in your current career path it wont be as much of an issue but if you are attempting a career change a PT program is not going to be the best path. Also, if you are sponsored by your work good luck getting into any recruiting because your work would have to approve it.

i think the demographic is also pretty different for PT. most PT MBA students aren't looking for the same type of jobs that FT people are looking for. Many PT and EMBA's are looking for jobs more in the VP level, etc.

also, back in the day when most PT people were sponsored, they weren't allowed to look for other jobs and they weren't allowed to leave for X years in exchange for the company paying for their MBA. so recruiting didn't really make as much sense.

i think this is getting better at most schools though. all of the top schools like kellogg, anderson, haas, wharton, etc. have fairly decent job placement programs for PT and EMBA folks.

I would agree - I think most PT students are staying in their current company, and just want to progress faster. So they wouldn't be interested in talking to recruiters.
So the recruiters don't bother coming, and the schools dont bother asking. And students looking to switch companies will tend to shy away from PT... and they cycle lives

Yeah, I think that it sucks too. However, at least at OSU, the PTers have full access to all recruiting materials and events. The only problem is trying to leave work to go to a mid-afternoon or luncheon event. But, at least we're allowed to go if we want/can. :?
