Hey all,

Since the Essay questions do not seem to have any space limit ( single or double) and just mentions the page limit:
For questions 1-3, please limit responses to 2 pages

Can it be single spaced and two pages? That would be around >1000 words for the first 3 essays , that seems pretty long!

What space limit is everyone following?

Thanks!

They have had double spacing as a requirement for a long time now as far as I know. Considering they shorted the essay #4 length by a paragraph I dont think they are going to let people make the other essays longer. I would bet the shortening of the #4 essays might have been a function of increased application totals. I would go with double space for now. Trust me it would be easier to make an essay a little longer than to eliminate a few pages worth of material.

Last year many of us squeezed 900-1000 words per essay.

prospect, you can go for 1.8 spacing if you're brave. :)

I'm applying R1 too. Working on Columbia ED right now, hope to start Kellogg's application soon. The essay topics from kellogg seem to cover a good span of your life.

To me thats the brilliance of Kellogg's essays, they give the most information about applicants so it really does allow them to craft a class and to make sure that the students "fit." It also gives you a lot more of an opportunity to sell yourself and the questions are pretty straightforward.

Clearadmit seems to think that double spacing is not required anymore. Can anyone confirm this ?

Great question...anyone know if this is true!? It makes a huge difference!

"Also note that Kellogg no longer requires that the essays submitted be double-spaced, allowing applicants additional breathing room in their responses."

I dont know about the double spacing issue...I really find it unlikely they did away with it completely. Reading that many essays if they are single spaced would be tough not just because of the tighter spacing but also because a two page essay could be close to 2,000 words with a little formatting. An increase in applications would make it tough to get through everything if they allow two pages single spaced. Especially when you consider the fact that they shortened the lengths of the essay 4 by a paragraph Its possible but I would personally work with double spacing for now. Its easier to add length than to cut it down.

Remember they only posted questions not the actual application so directions may differ.

Maybe one of the applicants on here will make a call to the admissions office to get the scoop.

I did call the admissions office and asked them about the word limit / space limit, they said "use your judgment".... :)

I would double space. Until the actual application is released, I would assume double space. Difficult for me to believe they are increasing the word limit when every other school is reducing wordcount.

My friend called Kellogg admission asked about the double space issue. They said you can choose double spaced or single spaced. The online application system will not force a word limit.

Single spaced two pages can end up being almost 2000 words!

I would advise against writing 2,000 word essays. That might be grounds for a ding :)
