Not me, this years class in my school (94 students) has a few from ACN and 1 from McKinsey, which is good due to the schools growing reputation.

I think Booz may fit the bill...

Although the typical top-tier would be - BCG, McK, and Bain.. right?

I'd say that Mercer, Oliver Wyman, and a couple other firms in that range are also above ACN/BAH as far as "prestige".

Before the split, BAH was a much different company than M/B/B firms. Most of the company worked in public sector consulting, competing with the likes of CSC, SAIC, Raytheon, etc. The commercial side, now Booz & Co that competes with M/B/B typically does not hire any undergrads. Almost all hires there are MBA's or experienced. If you worked at Booz & Co pre-mba that is prestigious, but 99% of pre-mba workers there are in the public sector side, which retains the name Booz Allen Hamilton.

I was going to say that about Booz & Co. myself. The top tier is clearly McK/BCG/Bain followed by Booz, DC and I dunno Monitor, ATK, LEK etc.
Do places like Accenture (mostly IT, no?), ACN (Media?) and Oliver Wyman and Mercer (HR?) really do traditional "management consulting" work these days?

Slightly off-topic, but is talking about a specific group at Booz & Co. a somewhat ridiculous short-term goal from an essay's perspective?

No, that's a smart idea, but mention a couple other groups at different firms as well to show that you're flexible.

Oliver Wyman is very prominent in the financial services arena - they help the bulge bracket banks with a lot of strategic and management related issues. I also believe they have a smaller management consulting practice. From wikipedia:

Oliver Wyman is a global strategy consulting firm. It was created in May 2007, when Mercer Oliver Wyman joined with Mercer Management Consulting and Mercer Delta to become one firm named Oliver Wyman. Oliver Wyman is headquartered in New York City with 40 offices in Americas, Europe and Asia Pacific and employs over 2,900 professionals. It is part of the Oliver Wyman Group, which is a business unit of Marsh & McLennan.

I believe it's a very prestigous place to work and their compensation is significantly above McKinsey/Bain.

If you had to rank consulting firms like US News and the other publications rank b-schools, where would you rank Deloitte? I have met a few consultants working with my company from Deloitte. Just wondering.

This is difficult to do this because there are smaller, boutique consulting firms which would technically be more prestigous than many larger ones. There aren't any schools with 50 students that are more prestigous than schools like UCLA or Duke.

However, if you're looking at Deloitte's Strategy & Operations practice (is that what they still call it nowadays? I have no idea), I would put it towards the bottom of the Top 10 of management consulting firms.

If you're ranking IT Consulting firms, I'd put Deloitte in the Top 5.

If you're ranking Big 4 accounting firms, Deloitte would be in the top 2-3.

The last 2 fields are obviously far less competitive and prestigous to begin with.

Thanks for the reply terp06.

I did a google search and vame up with Vault's rankings from a survey of 4,000 consultants:

https://www.vault.com/nr/consulting_rank ... &ch_id=252

Very interesting.

I'd definitely put Oliver Wyman, LEK, Parthenon, ZS Associates, Cambridge Associates, and AT Kearney above Deloitte from a pure prestige perspective. Deloitte's "prestige" is held down by the fact that they do IT consulting work and audit work.

It is interesting that they mentioned PwC, KPMG, and Ernst & Young on this list. As far as I know, these firms do not engage in consulting assignments and they only do audit work. Have things changed over the past year?
