I was going to say that about Booz & Co. myself. The top tier is clearly McK/BCG/Bain followed by Booz, DC and I dunno Monitor, ATK etc.
Do places like Accenture (mostly IT, no?), ACN (Media?) and Oliver Wyman and Mercer (HR?) really do traditional "management consulting" work these days?
Slightly off-topic, but is talking about a specific group at Booz & Co. a slightly ridiculous short-term goal from an essay's perspective?
No, that's a smart idea, but mention a couple other groups at different firms as well to show that you're flexible.
Oliver Wyman is very prominent in the financial services arena - they help the bulge bracket banks with a lot of strategic and management related issues. I also believe they have a smaller management consulting practice. From wikipedia:
Oliver Wyman is a global strategy consulting firm. It was created in May 2007, when Mercer Oliver Wyman joined with Mercer Management Consulting and Mercer Delta to become one firm named Oliver Wyman. Oliver Wyman is headquartered in New York City with 40 offices in Americas, Europe and Asia Pacific and employs over 2,900 professionals. It is part of the Oliver Wyman Group, which is a business unit of Marsh & McLennan.
I believe it's a very prestigous place to work and their compensation is significantly above McKinsey/Bain.
