Although the economy is bad, the news is that start-up companies are planning to hire significant number of MBA grads. Many Start Ups believe that due to the current state of our economy, tons of Talents are available for hire with less competition from large corporations.

How do you feel about working at a Start-up?

Great in theory, tough in practice. Start-ups demand specific domain expertise moreso than "general management" skills. It is very hard for an MBA to go work at a start-up directly out of school unless they have specific domain expertise in something like Healthcare or Technology.

Also, start-ups are feeling the pain of the economy as well. They are not immune from it. MBAs are a very superfluous expense for a start-up company that is looking towards an exit within the next few years - a larger corporation may be able to justify them better in a downturn with the idea of "They will feed into future senior management ranks"

Its a tough time to be starting any business. Funding is hard to secure and many markets aren't doing all that well. I would definitely take a hard look at what the business is doing and if at all possible ask the tough questions about how their finances are going to be for the next few years. Last thing you want is to take a job and then lose it a few months later.
