1) Do not use Gerunds when correct sentence with proper Noun is in the answer choices
2) When 1 is false go for Gerunds but must confirm that Gerund is followed by article, preposition or verb.
3) Never go for infinitives (preferably). But if you do, please confirm that infinitive is used as secondary verb to complement noun or adjective.

Preference of three types also follows the same sequential order as written above.

Traveling might satisfy your desire for new experiences. - Gerund "Traveling" is followed by verb
Removing his coat, Jack rushed to the river. - Participle - followed by noun
