Grammar book????

Hi imdeepak,

even before I started my preparation, I also had a similar feeling. I went through "Wren & Martin - High School grammar" (though selectively), which is quite a famous book in India. I thought this will refresh my grammar concepts, but instead I ended up wasting lot of time on this.

When I started SC from other books (like kaplan etc), I found that SC in gmat involves only limited topics, and doesn't need mastery in English grammar. One doesn't need to go through the whole lot of grammar stuff. If you want, I would suggest don't waste lot of time, just refresh the basic concepts, and familiarize yourself with common grammar "technical" words, so that understanding the explanations in GMAT SC books would be easier.

For SC, instead, you can go through some other books, specifically designed for gmat. I found concepts in Kaplan 800 good. Also, on the gmatclub forum, have read a lot about Manhattan SC (though I haven't tried my hands yet on this book). Do lot of practice and read the explanations of each and every question you solve.

Manhattan SC is the best in the market....It targets specifically for GMAT...
going thru a complete grammar book will be a waste of time coz gmat focuses on certain topics only.
What you can do is purchase Manhattan Gmat.....and search on the internet to get detailed coverage....
This will help you to understand in depth....

I agree that Grammar books are much broader than subjects tested on the GMAT. No questions asked.

However, I feel that the regular GMAT books are too limited for non-native speakers who need more help with Grammar. Kaplan Verbal Foundations attempts to bridge this gap by having only relevant topics and I actually gave it 5 star review on Amazon, but I am starting to find some gaps in the book (small ones but still).

Sounds like I am in the minority right now. Would love to hear your thoughts on using non-GMAT grammar books.

Hey thanks guys for suggestions,I just ordered manhattan SC and 3 more ....
I also thinks that reading whole grammar book will be boring and I know nw I cant learn that whole grammar in 2 weeks....
But I am just going through Doing grammar by Max Morenberg. This book is really good n author has presented each chapter in very good manner. I am just going through it.Once again thanks.Please do reply if u guys cm to know abt any new resources for grammar.

Thanks for the suggestion. I have been looking for something to improve my verbal score. The Kaplan and OG books don't have a detailed enough explanation and rely too much on the fact that you already "know" the rules.

Best part - I can get it from my local library.

Hey this book is really very good.......
But I m finding it very boring to read and nt able to remember also wht he has discussed in it.....
