am referring to Q1 of the free M25 test - pls see below OA is B but i chose E because i dont think S2 is sufficient
if x is 1, then I X-6 I should be = 5 and not >5 if x is -1, then I X-6 I > 5
Any thought, anyone?
------------------------------------------------------------------------ Is I X-6 I > 5? 1. X is an integer 2. X^2 < 1
Statement (2) ALONE is sufficient, but Statement (1) ALONE is not sufficient
Consider its geometric interpretation: is the distance between and 6 on the number line greater than 5? Statement (1) is not sufficient by itself. Statement (2) is sufficient by itself. is confined between -1 and 1 and thus is further than 5 units away from 6.
Statement (1) ALONE is sufficient, but Statement (2) ALONE is not sufficient Statement (2) ALONE is sufficient, but Statement (1) ALONE is not sufficient BOTH statements TOGETHER are sufficient, but NEITHER statement ALONE is sufficient EACH statement ALONE is sufficient Statements (1) and (2) TOGETHER are NOT sufficient Consider its geometric interpretation: is the distance between and 6 on the number line greater than 5?
Statement (1) is not sufficient by itself.
Statement (2) is sufficient by itself.X is confined between -1 and 1 and thus is further than 5 units away from 6.
The correct answer is B.

|X-6| > 5 Simplifing : +Ve -ve X-6 > 5 -X-6 > 5 X > 11 -X > -1 => X<1 Is this simplification wrong. Stmt 1 is not sufficient Stmt 2 says X^2 <1 This can be true only if X is a fraction so -1 < X< 1
Pls. clarify.
