Hello All,

I need some serious advice. I have taken the GMAT 3 times with my highest score as a 680 (all scores in that 650-680 range). I have never scored anything below 99th percentile in any math based test but keep messing up on the QUant section (got 70%). I am looking to apply to the top 10 but I dont know how competitive I will be, and now am thinking about taking it again.

Age 27
Education 3.6 at top tier university
WE: 2 years at a venture firm and 3 years at a hedge fund...all have strong recommendations
Extra: I have a very strong extracirricular activity list
Recommendations: I have up to 4 recommendations all from previous employers, and one from a non profit founder (who is currently a highly regarded bschool faculty member)
Goals: I am already in the process of starting my own fund, bschool will help me refine business plan/network

I am really confused and would love some help. I never thought I would be in this position but this test just has a barrier that I have a hard time to overcome. But I will take it again if I think its necessary. Also I heard about being an Indian Male its even harder. Thanks in advance...anyhelp would be great. SHould I take it again, should I just focus on application.

This is my opnion based on my own personal experience. I recently took up my GMAT recently for the 3rd time, and improved my score by 60 points, from 600 to 720.

Only if you feel that your GMAT score will be a detterent to your application, go ahead and take up GMAT Prep coaching. Youve tried to go through the journey thrice yourself, and there are some lingering weaknesses. Join any GMATPREP institute, and get over them. Do not take any more chances on going through the grind yourself.

Sometimes we carry wrong concepts in SC and Verbal. These are difficult to correct unless the underlying ideas are understood.

Dont worry about money now. You already spent 750 $ on your GMAT. You may as well spend a little more money and get through your GMAT confidently once and for all.

I will not recommend the self study again. Not unless your extremely confident that your concepts are solid enough to take the test , and you didnt do well earlier because of other underlying factors, that are not linked to your understanding of the concept.

Knewton seems like a good option for re-takers with their 50-point improvement guarantee (or otherwise money back).

I would recommend Knewton as well . Somehow hesitated from mentioning any name, else people might think Im a Knewton Sales rep lurking around on Gmatclub. But on a personal experience, basis they are fabulous.

Knewton seems like a good option for re-takers with their 50-point improvement guarantee (or otherwise money back).
