Let me give a shot after a while:

A. This question tests the idiom. The correct idiom form is " so x as to be y" i.e. in A.
B. It violets the the correct idiom form.
C. It also violets the the correct idiom form.
D. Its not in idiom form.
E. It is also not in a correct form. "so as to be" is never correct.

So A should be the OA.

as to be is incorrect usage. Thus is A is wrong.

B uses wrong tense.

C uses wrong tense.

D is correct.

E is again wrong usage.

Therefore D

Sorry friend so as to be is a correct usage...check the correct idioms list!!!

your answer D goes along in the form "that is transparent enough that it is".....unecessary usage!!!

Again, if I remember correctly, so as to be is not a correct idiom.
If it is used in the form "so x as to be y", then only it is correct.

Dear gmat tiger....like u said its in the form of "so X as to be Y" .....pls check again....and can u pls explain why "that" is repeating itself twice in option D.???


I don mean to be rude..just wanna know the right concept!!!

Hi GMAT Tiger,
I checked and right idiom is "So X as to Y" not "so x as to be Y".

so X as to Y - Used to denote cause and effect.
Ex. John's grade are so poor as to lead to his expulsion from the school.
