Essay 3 has me confused -

3. If you were not pursuing the career goals you described in Question 1 what profession would you pursue instead? (For example, teacher, musician, athlete, architect, etc.) How will this alternative interest contribute to your effectiveness in solving multidisciplinary problems? 300 words.

Can I talk about something I am doing part-time and give those examples before summarizing how this will help solve multidisciplinary problems?

Please let me know your thoughts.

there was a decent discussion about this on last year's thread if i remember correctly. see if you can find more info there, and if you still have specific questions, post here.

if you are talking about part-time work and it's different from what you want to do full-time, give a good reason why if that's what you want to focus on. you don't want to make yourself sound conflicted in what you're trying to accomplish.

I was in Ann Arbor on Thursday and Friday for the Ross Preview Day and had a really good time. The new building is really nice. I had the opportunity to speak with current students both at the bar and at the event and received pretty good feedback about their experiences. I'm not sure what it's like living in Ann Arbor, but I could see myself having a good time at the school. Plenty of cute girls for all of you single guys who were wondering (myself included).

I will definitely be applying to Ross next fall.

Guys,

What should be tense in essay -3 ?
Should it be like "If I hadn't opted for XXXX, I would have opted YYYY" or If i will not become "XXXX" I will become "YYYY" ?

I am approaching it from the standpoint of "If I was not intent on pursuing [career that I plan to transition to], I would (possibly) consider [alternate profession]".

I don't think you want your essay to come across sounding as if you will pursue this alternate career if you don't get into business school - that (to me) would come off as being too fickle. I think it's more of an alternate interest essay...what would you have done if you hadn't made up your mind to do whatever it is that you actually want to do.

Just my two cents.

I will upload my alternative career essay to the essay vault or can post it in this thread not sure about the rules. Also not sure if I have access to the essay vault. Anyway I wrote about pursing a career as a fly fishing guide so anything is game.

Mine's more along these lines too. Mine actually has some correlation to my career goals as well, I didn't fee like an EC or interest fit me as well.

Just submitted my R1 app for Ross - waiting for one recommender to finish and the waiting game officially begins. Best of luck to all those finishing up R1 apps this week!

Moving up to R1. My Ross passion bucket was overflowing after my visit and decided to write from the heart.
I would have wasted all the extra time on the slide deck anyways.

Does anyone know if the recommendations are supposed to be letters or filling out the forms?

Unhedged,

A letter would probably be more professional than filling out a form with answers for each individual question.

Sorry I wasn't clear. For example, Columbia just wants the questions answered on a website in text boxes. I think Kellogg is the same. On the other spectrum, Berkeley wants a formal letter on official letterhead.

I was curious if the Michigan method was the former, or the latter, so I can coach my recommenders accordingly.

For Michigan, you will need to upload a recommendation letter (i.e. a Word document) and also check some boxes ranking the applicant in about 10 different areas (i.e. Leadership Ability, Intellectual Curiosity, Personal Integrity, etc.).

They do provide a list of 5 questions that they would like to see addressed in the recommendation letter itself, so it's not just a 'write whatever you want' format.

I just submitted my application too. Time to take a few days off from writing and relax before starting the next set of essays. Good luck everyone!

Did anyone include undergraduate internship experience on their resume for Ross? The employment history section specifies post-UG only, but it seems incomplete for me to leave off a year's worth of professional work experience, especially since it affected my UG GPA, which I am trying to mitigate.
