Thanks all. I've got Columbia, McCombs, Anderson, and Marshall left. I will admit I'm starting to worry though.

Good luck to everyone that's left :D I'll probably be slowly bowing out of this thread...

Re: Calling all NYU Fall 2010 applicants [#permalink]
just thought i'd update since this forum has been so good to me.

i got waitlisted (w/o interview) at stern. this is on top of getting waitlisted at columbia. (the only two schools i've applied to).

evaluating my app, the only redflag i can think of is my gpa.

i had a 710 gmat, and i think my essays, recs, work exp were all at least decent (in any case, i can't see them being hindrances).

which leaves my gpa (piss poor). i retook the gmat thinking i really should have done better... and improved my verbal but slipped in math... and got the same score.

i'm not sure how to counter my gpa aside from destroying the gmat, but at this point i'm not that thrilled about taking it again for a 3rd time.

i can definitely see the bright side in that i haven't been dinged from either, but at the same time, with the current environment, i have a hard time believing a lot of ppl will get through this year from the waitlist.

any advice is appreciated. good luck to the rest of you!

I am in a similar situation. 5 yrs work-ex, award-winning author, one leadership award at work, other awards during UG, superb leadership in ECs, etc etc. UG-GPA = 2.5. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, 2.5. GMAT 710 (Q49,V38). Adding my name here so if someone has a success story with similar profiles, I'd like to hear.

I received an interview invite today as well. I have few questions for solaris and those who have got admitted recently-

1. I did not get any SWIB invite - how does it matter?
2. None of the dates showing on interview schedule website have the option to do lunch with a student. I do want to check out as much other stuff related to Stern as possible on my interview day. How can I maximize my experience? I am very interested in MESA club and would like to meet some student ambassador, how can I get it arranged?
3. Lastly, how long does the interview take? It says 30 mins but that sounds a bit short to me. Any pointers for preparation?

Thanks in advance

To add on to what Solaris and LB20 said...

Not getting a SWIB interview doesn't matter. The odds are all the same (they like you v they don't like you) whether you are invited to the conference or not. The SWIB side is a bit of targetted student events(similar is performed on Marketing, Consortium) that are limited, but allow the school to open itself up more by offering an event they feel the prospectives may benefit from. Sadly, the capacity for these is really limited against the candidate pool size.

As both recommend, get in touch with the Graduate Ambassadors - they are nearly all girls this year anyway. Which is to say that the majority are girls, not that all of them are midway through sexual reassignment. I am sure one of them is MESA affiliated, if not post up here and I will find someone for you.

I'm in a similar boat. I don't plan on starting to worry until next month, but... it's definitely better to be notified earlier.

I am not an expert, but since there's still 5+ weeks until their final "notification" date for invite/waitlist/ding, I think you're probably still okay. It really seems like things are trickling out slowly with no rhyme or reason.

Well, going to start by taking a deep-breath. And then I'm going to take a week or two and hopefully hear something positive from one of my other schools....after that, maybe retake the GMAT since that is the biggest weakness in my application (dreading just thinking about studying again)
