SHOUT OUT - If anyone is looking to attend BDW at a cheaper rate, you can look into the Millennium Hotel in Durham that is a mile from the school for $79/night (I'm staying Fri & Sat) on Expedia. They provide shuttles to-and-from Breedan Hall & certain other locations, starting at 7:30a.m. Shuttles run every 30 min until 10:45p.m., if I recall correctly.

Cheers :-D

Just for you to know, I read several reviews about Millenium hotel and looks like it is not a great option: filthy, musty, old dated, low-quality bath amenities, poor parking security, etc. Only two good things show up: closeness to Duke University and unexpensive (looks like they are trying to attract customers this way).

I wouldn't make this trip just to find out all is true.

There are other nice hotels south of Duke University on the 70-100 USD per night range. Drawback is that you need a rental car.

To echo what asimov posted before about bdw, the current students I've talked to have been pushing the WaDuke pretty hard. I was actually booked at the millennium as well (Got $69 on priceline, nice work on the $49), but their feeling was that if you're traveling single, the extra 30-40 bucks a night if you split a room at the WaDuke is well worth it as the school almost works it in as an extra element of BDW by arranging it as the recommended place to stay. My 2c, I'm sure anyone who stays at the millennium will do just fine as well.

Sweet, how did you get the $49 deal - is it through 'name your own price' on priceline? Originally I got it for $69 there as well but saw that it has since gone up to $89.

The Washington Duke Inn is certainly nice; I stayed there during a visit earlier. Now trying to save every dime to get ready for paying back a 6-figure loan.

Billyjeans and others, do you have any specific tips for those of us mired in the stagnant waitlist? I know that my undergrad performance is the big red flag but won't be able to take a class as I'm traveling. I plan to get another letter of rec and to write why Fuqua is my #1 but can anyone suggest timing or other specifics?

Any help would be great. I hope you all enjoy the upcoming weekend together and hope to meet you all in the fall.

hey guys, I booked the $49 at millenium on priceline (name ur own price) for my feb trip. I am guessing there are more demand for the bdw bookings. So the price might be higher. Sorry for the confusion. :)

Anyone have thoughts or insight into whether the wait list may be inflated at Duke with the reduced application fee this year? I'm absolutely rationalizing but there may be something to it...possibly. Do we have any view as to how many typically get in off the wait list at Duke?

Like many of you, I was quite disappointed when I was waitlisted in Round 1. But I'm proud to say that another waitlist dragon has been slayed!

For those on the waitlist from Round 1 and the new arrivals from Round 2, know that it isn't over yet. I know that it's tough to play the waiting game, but remember that you still have plenty of time to be admitted.

My only piece of advice is to be smart with your waitlist strategy. My general approach was to (a) determine what the typical waitlist candidate would do and (b) take a completely different approach. Several guides out there say that you must do x, y, & z to be admitted off waitlists, but I felt that those cookie-cutter options were to generic and did not make me stand out more than the next person. Whatever strategies you choose, make sure they showcase yourself truthfully while proclaiming your continual interest in pursing an MBA at Fuqua.

I did not request an additional letter of rec or retake the GMAT.

As waitlisters, you've been given a second chance to make an impression. Take advantage of this opportunity, and make sure that you're staying within the guidelines outlined by Fuqua.

Good luck to all and congrats to the new admits!

Obviously with trying to be unique I wouldn't use your idea, but I'm curious. What did you do? Did you hear on Monday?

Thanks!

For those in the waitlist, I want to share some stats from 2008 I found yerterday about Fuqua:
≈30% of the applicants are offered admission (2,900 applications, which means about 870 accepted)
≈50% of the admitted applicants enroll in class (hence the ≈430 class size).

I would say that Fuqua offers direct admission to about 600 people, and waitlists around 250-270. My guess is that most waitlisted will be offered admission before decision for R3 deadline is reached.

For those attending BDW...

I booked the Hilton Durham near Duke U for $45 / night.

Priceline
'Name Your Price'
Area: Durham
Stars: 3 1/2
Rate: $45

It is approximately 2 miles from Duke.
