Hey everyone, so I had my follow-up interview today and will likely get a decision by Thursday, which ironically happens to be my birthday. I'm really hoping it will be good news right now :? KAS1986, I felt that the interview was somewhat discouraging and grilling too, although I hope I clarified their questions. There were some things that in retrospect I could have elaborated more on, but I guess I can't dwell on them right now. I really need to study for my exam on Friday but this is making me so anxious and distracted!

Hey anner,

Wish you a very happy b'day. Really hope that you get the admit as your birthday gift. Do share it with us as and when you know.

@kitsune, @anner, @voodoo, @lsl2125:

Was on a break and just checked your posts today. Thank you for your wishes and honest opinions on how to go about in such a situation. Makes complete sense. A similar opinion resonates in my mind as well. Though I guess I ll just wait a little longer before I make that final decision. Thank you for your support guys.

Hi WVB25,

It's really nice to see someone with a good clarity of thought on what you want to do at such a young age. Congratulations on your profile. As far as WE limit is concerned I do not think there is any reason to be worried about. The one year limit, I understand, is only for full time post graduation WE. Wishing you the very best. Happy apping !! :)

@ hofimax
Is it easy to find international positions through recruiting on campus?
And what do you like most and least about the program?

Thanks!

There will not be too many smaller, foreign companies coming to campus. Big firms with international offices (consultancies, banks, industry) are coming and the first round interviews for their offices abroad take place in London/on campus.
Besides on-campus visits of firms you have hundreds of job posts on the intranet - many for international positions.

Of course LBS has the tightest connections with the city/UK firms and help from LBS finding a position in Germany, Lebanon or Argentina will be limited, if it is not with a global firm.

+) Fellow MiMs, Professors, the campus feeling, access to clubs and MBAs
-) The career module started a little late (mid-Oct) with all the application deadlines so close - was a bit useless. They will start it earlier (even with pre-readings before September) next year.

Are students able to work during the programme? Are this jobs paid or unpaid?

I was talking about the sessions/lectures about "how to make a perfect application" by career services. They support you heavily. This lectures/workshops started a little late into the term and this caused some troubles because some deadlines for banking have been very early, end of September, I remember.

I guess working during the programme is possible for not more than 20h and with flexible working hours. Some MiMs do it actually.

Thank for your birthday wishes! I just received my acceptance email today! :)

Now I have to make a very hard decision. I actually have another offer from a Canadian University that is nevertheless highly ranked in business here (and some execs in NYC seem to know of it as well) . The most tempting part is that they are offering me 12K CAD of stipend (it is 8 months of classes and 3 months of a research project) while the tuition is only 6K, so i get a positive net balance  ! Their employment stats have been 100% in the past before graduation and past students have gotten into Mckinsey, Bain, BCG and some ibanks.

However, there is no way it can compare to LBS in terms of international prestige and alumni network. And I Would LOVE to have the opportunity to live in London for a year with all of you. But the tuition at LBS converts to something like 35000 CAD ,which is a huge difference....

I would love to hear some of your opinions.

Hofimax, I was wondering if you have approximate employment stats of the past students based on your own observations. Thank you in advance!

CONGRATULATIONS!!! You truly deserve it =)
and congrats on the Canadian school too, it's so impressive that you're GETTING PAID to study!

@ hofimax
Thank you for the thoughtful responses, I really appreciate it :-D
I wonder how is the social scene like at LBS. Do you find it hard to meet other MiMs because everyone lives off campus?

I think that now 50% of people have a job offer. 10% got their dream job, 40% a job they accepted. Other 40% I guess most will find a job during the next months. Some will continue a PhD or join their family business... people have mixed intentions. The job market was cruel this autumn 2009 (when London firms post the jobs for autumn 2010) and is now picking up. MiM2011 will have a much better situation. Everybody in the world wants to go to London and it is very competitive. That's also a reason why some of the MiMs are actually going home to take an offer there.
What I hear from others is that Oxbridge and LSE students also struggle finding a job right now - there are simply not enough positions available.

We are a group of 106 now, and I would say there is a lot of partying and socialising going on. Some MiMs live in shared flats and they invite people over, we have social reps who organize partys/clubbings regularly and every Thursday evening there is free beer on campus (Sundowners), where you will always find 10+ MiMs. We have been split into groups of 5 people (study groups) and some groups really bonded well and spend their time together also outside of school. Before exams and assignment deadlines a lot of MiMs are in the library (Taunton) to study and work or just chill together. A lot of MiMs lve close to school and can be seen on campus or library nearly every day. But of course, others prefer to minimize time at school and study at home.
Programme office mixed the seminar groups each term newly - so by the end of the year you have worked or at least attended the same seminars with most of the people anyway. Next year they will have two streams of MiMs, and I guess you will mostly stick to your stream. 106 people is a bit too much in lectures and splitting into two streams of 60 is a good idea I guess.
