Per a student on BW forums, Dean Dolan is leaving in 2011. What's everyones thoughts on that?
Email received today:
As many of you know, my second and current five-year term as Dean comes to an end in summer 2011. Although that is still a little more than a year away, I think this is the right time to announce that I have decided not to seek or serve a third term as Dean. My fellow deans at Chicago, Northwestern, and Stanford have made similar decisions in the past year suggesting that two terms totaling ten years generally “feels right” in this day and age. I have discussed my decision with the Provost and, more recently, the President so that the School and the University can plan a smooth and effective transition.
As I recently said in a Monroe Street Journal interview, coming to Michigan as Dean of the business school is the best move I ever made. It has given me the opportunity to work with great people – faculty, staff, students, and alumni -- in a challenging, energizing, and deeply rewarding environment. I am proud of what we have accomplished together since the summer of 2001 and how we have worked together--through a historic naming gift, an ambitious facilities project, and several economic cycles--to strengthen the School and maintain its tradition of excellence.
What happens among the people who work and learn here together is tremendously inspiring. Every time I walk through the Davidson Winter Garden and see and hear our learning community at work, I feel a sense of great joy and satisfaction. Thank you to all of you for your contributions to our community.
More information about the process for determining a new Dean will be forthcoming. In the meantime, there is important work to be done, and I very much look forward to pursuing it together during the remainder of my term.
Thank you.
Bob Dolan, Dean
I don't really have thoughts on this. More of a shrug. EDIT: Maybe current students could say something?
