Spoke to the processing staff. Have been told that they havent forwarded an invite in a long time.Furthermore, The class is nearly full & they dont expect many invites to be sent out in the remaining few days.

Thanks for the update.
I already interviewed early this month, but no decision yet.
I'm a Round 3 applicant, but it seems like I'm being reviewed with Round 4 applicants.
Can't figure out a reason to not post me as W/L. Is this good or bad??

Honestly, I would take this as a good sign. Just hang in there. If they weren't interested they would have just given you a decision.

Is it a good sign for R4 applicants without interview invites as well

Hi, has anybody received the Sage newsletter yet? Are you guys worried by the fact the school is slipping in the rankings? I am not, and I declined Michigan to attend Cornell, I love their SGE immersion! :) Hope to see you all there soon!!

I know you aren't worried so for anyone else out there reading this I wouldn't worry about a slip in the rankings. Honestly, the rankings are crap. Supposedly, Cornell dropped because the school reported its job numbers in an honest manner. It's the same reason Wharton dropped. Oh well. The economy sucked. Cornell feeds many students to Wall Street firms. Numbers were down because of the recession and the lack of Wall Street firms hiring Cornell grads.

One of the reasons for the drop, according to arm-chair rankings analysts, is that some schools that jumped Cornell "gamed" the rankings in the way they reported their job numbers. At the end of the day who really cares. Everyone knows that Cornell is a top school. It has an outstanding reputation with recruiters and is a rigorous program.

Haha! That I do not know. I figured for bestofgmat, a round 3 applicant, it could be a good sign because for round 3 applicants the deadline was March 23rd. If bestofgmat hasn't heard, then it may be positive. If adcom wasn't interested they would have dinged him/her on the deadline date.

Quick Update

I spoke with senior admission staff today. They expect all R4 applications to be reviewed twice till the 1st of may. My interpretation is that mass invites will be released on the 1st.

Interesting, did you get an idea about how many seats are still left on the class?

I didn't quite get it. The deadline for decision release is 6th May, but they will be inviting for interview for Round 4 before 1st May? How are they going to manage the time frames then? Or are they going to shift the decision release date?
I am a R4 applicant, and at least expected an interview invite - so was disappointed not to get one so far...
I would appreciate if you could clarify.

a)they "EXPECT " every R4 application to be reviewed by
b) and 'INTEND" to extend invites till

May The 1st.

Everything else is (mass invites etc) is mere speculation .

There's been some discussion about rankings and I wanted to weigh in.

There was a post a while back wondering if there was a correlation between Cornell's rankings and the overall economy. I plotted the Johnson rankings against the DJIA prices (I tried to find the DJIA price around February because I believe rankings are released around that time).

The first chart is the DJIA on the left axis and Johnson School rankings on the right axis.
The second chart is the % change from both the DJIA and Johnson School rankings.
Does it correlate? I'm no statistician and my methods aren't exactly scientific (seriously, did it in 5 minutes), but some of you may be able to see into the mists and come up with an interpretation for us.

Our rankings seem to go increase (BAD) when the DJIA goes up (GOOD). Hmmm...

Also, this is for anybody considering an international career (I am an expat working in Beijing)

Whenever I tell people where I am going to, they may not know the Johnson School, but they for sure know Cornell University. And then they think Ivy League. When I told someone I was applying to MIT (dinged) they were surprised it even had a business school. My colleagues are from Europe, and they had similar reactions.

So in the US, if people pay attention to rankings, we may not be looked upon as favorably as Harvard, Stanford, etc. BUT, internationally, people will link you to the Cornell name, and that goes a looooong way. :-D

Great work optiquezt, thank you so much for posting! In my mind, one of the main reasons Johnson slipped in the rankings this year is the soft labor market in the financial services sector in particular. The economy and the industrial average arguably impact all b-schools, not just Cornell but someone still has to rank on top. Top performers are likely to have diversified across industries and fallen back on alumni and smaller recruiters.

I'd bet that there's an even stronger correlation between Cornell's ranking and the financial services segment of the public markets.

+1 to you optiquezt, for the neat graphs and the great work you've done! Thank you for sharing.

if cornell's ranking declined because of its exposure to financial services recruiting, then why did NYU's ranking go up given that their exposure to financial services recruiting is greater?
