Re: Admitted : Mccombs Evening MBA [#permalink]
jsgoose,

Regarding Bauer, I would think twice about it accepting it. We've all seen the literature about how great Bauer is in Houston, but if you want my honest opinion (disclaimer - I'm not a Bauer MBA graduate but I did take the MS in Finance courses due to the need for finance knowledge at my current job), I'd say try to look at Rice for full-time if you absolutely want to do full-time in Houston; If you're willing to move to Austin, the McCombs program is great too. Even though I learned alot through the finance courses (I had zero finance experience prior to taking the classes), Bauer won't help you too much with switching careers, particularly if you are looking at more "elitist" careers. Sometimes I think alot of top-end Houston companies look down on Bauer (full-time's not even a ranked program)- they'll see that on a resume and just assume the worst. The administration is terrible, and I don't think they're career services are that great. Now assuming you just want to move up in your company or within your industry (depending on industry), it may not be too terrible - but I wouldn't do it full-time.

I'd save yourself the heartache and really try to get into another program if you can - otherwise the McCombs Houston program isn't too bad. My buddy is in it and he says while you do have access to full-time recruiting, last years recruiting was terrible due to market conditions. I myself will have to decide between accepting the Houston McCombs offer of admission or giving it one last try for McCombs full-time, Wharton/Kellogg/Booth...

Thanks for the response. I've heard similar tales on Bauer, and all my research Led me to aim higher. Pleased to say I was admitted to McCombs in Houston this week and promoted at work (career change). So I'm going to accept and officially end my MBA App career now.
Good luck to you with your decision.

After doing the MSF at Bauer, I could not agree more with duderanch.
