Re: NYU Stern-Langone Fall 2010 [#permalink]
Here are my stats to share:

GMAT:610 (weeker verbal score); 5.5 Writing
GPA:3.2 (Engineering major)
School: Tier 1 Undergrad program
Work Exp: Top 5 consumer company (6 yr professional in sales)
Essays: Well written, put a lot of time and thought into them. I sent in a supplementary package for essay #3 with a short description.
Reco's: Hoping they were solid (is there a way to see them?)

Any thoughts on my chances?

Thanks

Hi all,

Likewise, have been following this thread for a couple of weeks. Do share the good news when the results are out. Helps with the anxiety somewhat :)

Good luck everyone!

I got accepted into my "safety" school yesterday (Villanova) and they're looking for a response from me by June 11th... it'd be nice to hear something from NYU before then, but I'm not too sure that's going to happen.

I'm thinking if I don't get in for this fall, I may just wait and reapply for spring 2011.

ChickenDinner and ST1705, please post your stats.

ChickenDinner, did you apply to a PT program at Villanova or is this a FT program? If I may ask, where is your current location, because those are two different enviroments (Tennessee and New York!). I would say send in a deposit for Villanova, just in case NYU doesn't work out so that you can go to b-school next year. But if you have your heart set on NYU, then definitely wait it out!

Re: NYU Stern-Langone Fall 2010 [#permalink]
Villanova is in Philadelphia, which is where I currently reside... I think you're thinking of Vanderbilt! If I am accepted to NYU, I plan to relocate somewhere in NJ next spring (maybe New Brunswick area?) Both programs I applied to are part-time, except Villanova is a 2-year cohort.

I've posted my stats here before, but...

27/M
Undergrad GPA: 3.49 (Finance, minor in business law)
GMAT: 670 (higher verbal than quant... bit concerned with that)
Exp: 3.5 yrs within different finance roles of a Fortune 50 company
Ex-military
Certified Management Accountant (CMA)
Rec's: Good (Group Finance Director, and current supervisor)
Essays: Pretty good, I think... spent a lot of time on all of them

I've also been following this thread for a few weeks, and this is my first time posting.

Does anyone know what time of day they generally release acceptance notifications? (This will help me to stop checking my email so frequently!)

Me too! I am constantly checking my blackberry for a message from NYU, so I am going a little crazy.

Personally, I'm not going to start freaking out until July 15th. Then I'll know there are only two weeks left for me to hear something!

Haha, I was thinking of Vanderbilt! Well, a current Langone student posted on the thread that some students do commute from Boston and Philly, so it is totally feasible for you.

@arruhbee

Yeah luckily my office is about 30 mins north of Philly (in NJ), and about 5-10 mins from NJTransit to NYC (I applied for weeknights). I also have a few people in my office that have made the commute... and I personally made the trip when I went up for the info session in March. The commute won't be GREAT (about 1-1.5 hrs from when I leave the office to stepping foot on campus), but it will give me time to catch up on reading, etc. The tricky part will be group work... but I think a lot can be done over conference calls.

Re: NYU Stern-Langone Fall 2010 [#permalink]
When deciding between part time and full time, I read an extreme example of one guy who worked with Microsoft in Washington, but flew to Chicago on the weekends to attend Booth's Part-Time program. Now, that's one helluva commute! However, he did mention that he was able to coordinate the majority of his group projects via phone/e-mail, so that wasn't too much of a hindering factor for him.

Well, I have a similar commute to yours daily as I travel from Queens, NY (practically, Long Island) to the Financial District. There's 3 hours (round-trip) per day lost in either reading, listening to music, or trying really hard not to stare at people.

@ST1705: Talk about variety in skills/accomplishments - pastry chef, trained in France..wow. You know, I remember reading about someone who had similar training, and went about creating her own line of chocolates incorporating some exotic flavours she came across in a backpacking tour post graduation. The break came from several upscale stores (neiman-marcus type) and needless to say, the operation grew quite bit. I think she was profiled in Money magazine couple of years back.

Anyway, here's my profile as well, in a bit of detail.

M/Indian-american
GMAT: 710,6.0
grad GPA 3.72 engg.
Work Exp: 10+ years.
Essays: Spent a fair amount of time on them.

Hoping for the best... wish the same for everyone.

I have heard of some commute stories as well. I have a friend who did his MBA from one of the Chicago univs, flying in every weekend or some such, from one of the states near the southern border. He used to be in the airline industry, which helped quite a bit I think.

Re: NYU Stern-Langone Fall 2010 [#permalink]
hi guys,
i've been following the thread and thought i should join in as well.

my stats:
30/F/Korean-American
GMAT: 720
GPA: 3.2 in computer science
work exp: 7yrs in finance, currently in fixed income trading
CFA charterholder
kinda worried about the low-ish GPA, hoping the GMAT and the CFA will offset it.

regarding commuting...from what i've read, there's a fair number of people who commute to NYU on the weekends from philly and DC and such, which is partly why the weekend option is more competitive than the weeknights.

Talk about low-ish scores... I am worried about my low GMAT scores. Took them four years back and have been too lazy to re-take them :( My bad!

ST1705, i think your profile looks super strong. i would bet you're one of the first to hear back on this forum!

maybe they don't start releasing decisions on memorial day week....last year memorial day was a week earlier.
hopefully we'll start hearing some news next week.
