NYU Stern-Langone Fall 2010

thanks! which program is more competitive? weekends or weeknight?

As has been discussed on this thread, weekends is harder to get into with only 60 spots, whereas there are 300 spots for weeknights in the Fall. Weeknd program also draws applicants that can only do weeknds because they live in PA or other places.

I strongly suggest you spend some time looking around the website to familiarize yourself with the program:

You should also attend an information session at the school (they are listed on the website). I take it you have not yet applied.

Another question I had - from what you have seen, what is the number/fraction of students with 10+ yeas of experience in a batch? I have read here and elsewhere that Stern does welcome candidates in that range, so I am not concerned about that being of any negative impact in the admissions. Still, it will be helpful to know in what range, etc.

Hi, I'm also a current Langone student (started the weekend program in February) and, although langone2009 has done a great job answering your questions, I can weigh in specifically on the above. You are correct in that Stern does welcome students with more than 10 years of experience - I am one myself, with more than 15 years in my field. In my group of 60 I would guess something like a quarter to a third of us fit in the 10+ category. Of course the weekend crowd will most likely skew older because we are more likely to have families, but that should give you an idea.

Can you please share your admission experience such as stats, time frame of receiving admission etc..

Sure thing. I'm not a very good example as far as admissions timing, I took the GMAT in late October and applied after the deadline but still got my admission notice sometime before Thanksgiving. Keep in mind that was for the Spring session. Here are my stats:

38/F/White
Undergrad GPA: 3.32 (Mathematics/Statistics)
GMAT: 750
Exp: 15 yrs in financial services

Great profile and experience/background btw, can certainly see an application just a few days late being considered normally, given the value you would bring to the classroom in a finance-heavy bus. school.

Phew, at least we all can relax on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays!

Also, shout out to the current Langone students that are providing us with invaluable information and somewhat, calming us down about the admissions process.

Quick question, is there an option to defer admission for the Langone Program? Let's say you get a new job and your hours aren't really stable.

Unfortunately no deferment, according to the admission section on website they make you reapply.
Also, you must attend preterm (9/11-9/12), if you don't you can't start, they are very serious about that. There is some leniency for religious observation, but it needs to be approved ahead of time.
So think positive thoughts and block out 9/11-9/12 on your calendars!

langone2009 and klr, do either of you guys know of someone who was admitted, denied their admission, and reapplied at a later point? Does/Could reapplying under those conditions affect your admissions decision the second time around? I guess the applicant in question could write Essay 4 describing why they couldn't attend the first year.

Since pre-term falls on a weekend, it shouldn't be a problem. It is the weekend after labor day weekend, fyi.

I don't know anyone specifically, but if you look at the website: www.stern.nyu.edu click on prospective students and look for FAQ under applying and it states no deferment and you have to reapply.

If you look around the website there is a lot of good info. If you click on current students, instead of prospective you can see alot of info about classes etc without needing a password (you can go into sternlinks for part time and actually see sample class syllabi, etc.). It will be something to keep you guys busy while you are waiting to hear

I do know someone who was supposed to start with me last fall, but he couldn't make it to pre-term so they wouldn't let him in until the spring after he attended pre-term. I don't believe he had to reapply, but I don't know. He was none too happy about having to wait and wouldn't even discuss it.

Does anyone know what time the orientation is on September 11th and 12th? I can't seem to find it, but was pretty sure I saw it somewhere...
