I was thinking the ticking would be annoying too, so I got an oldschool sand timer that you just turn upside down!

cool! just remember to understand that you *could* go over 2 mins if you are like 30sec or under to solving it. so becareful about that

If you are at starting phase of preparation, I won't suggest to use any timer. 1st go questions without timing and later on I think you can practice timed questions.

one thing i learned during my prep: After a little while your internal clock will be just as good, i would try cultivating that soon. Sure, use the a timer first ( I just used iPhones stopwatch) but learn to go without it, as you dont want to develop a a dependence on something you can't use on game day.
