I just bought an egg timer!

I'm sure someone has done this or something very similar on this forum. If anyone has any feedback from this or a similar strategy let me know please!

A 2 minute egg timer and a 1 minute egg timer arrived yesterday in the mail! I haven't taken the GMAT yet but my timing strategy is always terrible when taking tests. I could easily see myself spending up to 5 minutes on one question and seriously compromising my chances of scoring well. I'm going to use these egg timers when doing the hundreds of Quant and SC questions between now and early October!

- I'm hoping that the constant use of the 2 minute timer when doing OG questions will help me subconsciously learn what 2 minutes feels like when i'm enthralled in doing questions... consciously! More importantly, I hope it will condition me to know intuitively when i've gone past 2 minutes.
- I think it's going to be better than an electronic timing device for a few reasons. For one, you're not really supposed to be looking at the clock more than a few times during the GMAT. A reliance on online timers when practicing (no offence to the people who have done excellent work on the GmatClub timer) may increase the desire to look at the screen constantly during the real exam which would be distracting.
- I may mark the glass on the actual timer with some different lines, which will indicate how fast i'm doing certain questions. For instance if i'm doing 20 SC modifier questions and am constantly hitting the middle line (1 minute) compared to doing 20 sub-verb agreement questions which constantly use up the complete 2 minutes, i'm identifying a weak area quite well. The same goes for the different areas of quant.

This is all quite vague but I don't think it could hurt my chances of improving whatsoever. I would like to hear opinions, good or bad, about this or suggestions about other unorthadox methods of studying!
