Hey guys, just updating everyone on my progress and want to thank everyone on here. This site has helped me immensely.
With that said, I gave GMAT another try after scoring a 510 Q35V26 in August.
This time around 570 Q38V29.
I am encouraged but I am also disappointed. I was consistantly scoring in the 600-620 range with my highest being a 640. My Q scores ranged from 38-44 and V scores ranged from 30-36.
I ran into one main problem that I hope will help somebody on here...
MAKE SURE YOU GET PLENTY OF SLEEP THE ENTIRE WEEK OF THE EXAM!!! I cannot express how important this is. I literally hit a wall soon after starting the verbal section. I simply became so tired I could not fully comprehend what I was reading and it cost me DEARLY on the timing.
I looked up and had 15 questions left on verbal with roughly 20 minutes to go. It wasn't even necessarily that I spent too much time on the early questions making sure I got them right. I was just so tired that it took me forever to just read and understand the passage or question I was reading. Very discouraging and frustrating after working so hard.
Needless to say, I had to virtually skim the remaining 15 questions. I didn't even get a chance to read all the answer choices on MOST of the last 15.
Anyway, I am encouraged by this at the same time. I think for me to score V29 while basically skimming the last 15 problems says that I was shooting for a high score. I just need to get better sleep the week leading up to the test next time.
My testing materials this go around...
-I read each of the
MGMAT books plus the
Powerscore CR books. All of them helped of course.
My one regret was that I ran out of time to study before I could really practice what I had learned in the books with the
OG. That is what I'm working on now and will be until the final GMAT.
In conclusion, I'm going to be taking the GMAT one last time before calling it quits. Unfortunately, since I have to wait 31 calender days between tests, it looks like I have to wait til the first week of December to take it. But, I plan on having all my apps done by this time and the last GMAT score will be the final thing sent in to my schools. So all in all, I think it will be perfect timing and will have the GMAT and all apps in to my schools by mid-late December just in time for the second deadlines at most of the schools I'm applying to.
I do have a couple of questions though...
1) I remember people saying something about a "timing" mechanism on this site that helps people with their timing on the test. It was never an issue for me until the GMAT this last time but I figure having it will help me even more next time.
2) For this second go around with GMAT, since I read all the
MGMAT books and
Powerscore CR, what do you guys recommend I do study-wise for the next month before D-day?
Thanks for everything guys!
