Calling All NYU Stern Fall 2011 Applicants

Are international students really at a disadvantage if they apply during R2 at Stern? The website recommends applying in R1 but as the deadline is approaching I don't feel my application is as good as it can be and I might be able to put together a better application if I don't rush it over the next one week.

I think that R1 advisory is just a safety measure for Visas etc. Not a necessity. Though apparantly they do not interview outside NY after the round 1!

was browsing through previous years thread at various forums ... it seems that NYU off campus interviews are held in march ... do you have info about any r1 applicant who was interviewed off campus in jan ???

You can easily find the contact info of a lot of student ambassadors on the Stern website. Try that!

I am submitting Friday or Saturday when I can confirm it got there.

not really: here are the instructions:The file cannot exceed 500 KB in size and should be in .doc, .wpd, .rtf, .xls, .pdf, .docx, .xlsx or .txt format.

My presentation is about 3 MB, I have pictures etc in it

Convert to PDF to reduce the filesize while maintaining readability. That's what I did before.

did you guys format your resume in the NYU Stern format like these:

Does anyone know if you can submit your application before your recommendations are complete? I'm assuming my recommendations will submit my recs this weekend, but I think I read that NYU reviews Applications on a FIFO basis, so I'd like to submit my application as soon as possible.

You can submit your application before your recommendations are submitted. But your application will not be read until all the materials are in I believe.

Just FYI, Stern does not follow a rolling process like Columbia (FIFO = reads the first app as soon as it is submitted, notify as soon as review is done). Instead, Stern aggregates all of the apps on deadline day and notifies on a rolling basis (revised FIFO = reads the first complete app on deadline day, notifies as soon as review is done).

Oh. so it won't be considered complete until they submit their portions? Dang. Oh well. I guess I don't really care how long I wait. I just care if I get in or not. Thanks for the info.

I'd call the AdCom office to double check. They might review the application if a recommendation is late. They will definitely review if everything is in though, obviously.
