A or E...

Is it really necessary here?

Re: SC - Cosmological advances [#permalink]
It is ambiguois. Hence A and B are out of the race.

C is out of the race since it changes the meaning of the original sentence. Also the first part of the sentence"Recent cosmological advances have made possible that...." is not a complete clause.

Between D and E, eliminated D due to the presence of BEING.

Left with E as ans.

Re: SC - Cosmological advances [#permalink]
A.
1. "invisible" changes the meaning.
2. The use of reference word "it" keeps the sentence straight - e.g. E makes a very awkward reading

JohnLewis1980 wrote:

A idem
B it possible to observe stellar objects that would have been invisible only a decade ago
C possible that one can observe stellar objects invisible only a decade ago
D possible the observing of stellar objects that were not capable of being viewed only a decade ago
E possible the observing of stellar objects that only a decade ago would not have been able to be viewed

please explain

=> In A and B , it is not clear what "it" is referring to
C changes the meaning of the sentence. The sentence in C says Stellar objects were invisible a decade ago.
In D the " were not capable of being viewed "construction is awkward

E by POE.

While I agree that it/they are two pronouns that one needs to be very careful with, there are exceptions

observing of?? Outright wrong. D & E out

possible that?? Also C does not show that they have not been visible until now.

So Now it is down to A & B.

It is raining now. Is the usage of it wrong? No. Similarly, the it here is benign.

We can let A go as it moves the invisible part away.

B is good as it moves the invisible part and also captures the part that these objects have been invisible for a decade with continuous tense.

I completely agree with botirvoy.

I chose A too..(eventhough sentence is little awkward)

B changes the meaning...by using' "invisible"

You are not able to see --> doesn't mean that --> they are invisible..
probably you don't have capability to view the same decade ago.... Now you have that capability... to view the same.

I went with B, but can't back it up with anything besides a gut feeling that it was the right answer.

A idem - wordy
B it possible to observe stellar objects that would have been invisible only a decade ago - best option CORRECT - short and clear
C possible that one can observe stellar objects invisible only a decade ago - objects were there but not visible to us. So, it cannot be invisible objects
D possible the observing of stellar objects that were not capable of being viewed only a decade ago - to observe is correct
E possible the observing of stellar objects that only a decade ago would not have been able to be viewed - wordy and to observe is correct

Re: SC - Cosmological advances [#permalink]
I will go with A here.

B changes the meaning. it says "objects invisible only a decade ago", meaning thse objects were invicible a decade ago but not visible now, right?

B is better grammer wise but gives a different meaning.

IMO A.
