Hi Ariel - Thank you for your response. I had one other follow-up question for you. When does Cornell perform the background check. Is it after you have been issued an I-20 and right before school starts? Please advise.

Hi NikkiMBA, yes the background check is done right before classes start and after you have been issued an I-20.

My application status is suddenly updated to Incomplete, no reason mentioned. I completed the whole application and double checked.

Any clues, do I need to courier them my original transcripts as well for completing the application?

I thought it could wait after until after the decision.

Regards.

BlueRobin, probably not a bad idea to give them a call on Monday. If you're sure your recommenders have already submitted, then official transcripts is the likely reason. They do require official transcripts to be submitted before the application deadline (or they used to last year) but a fair number of people don't do that. I'm sure they will process your application regardless but better give them a call just to make sure there isn't anything else they need.

From the online application: "Submission of unofficial transcripts allows the Johnson School Admissions Office to process your application quickly, but we require official transcripts from all previous coursework if you matriculate. We recommend providing official transcripts in addition to scanned documents. Offers of admission are not binding until the admissions office verifies academic records."

Sounds to me that not sending official transcripts shouldn't hold up your app. You will have to send them if you are admitted.

Thanks Ariel and Brainhurt,

As you said I did check and there isnt anything missing, what confounds me is that they put an Incomplete tag and do not give any clue as to why.

I think it might has to do with the off transcripts even though they do mention it can be put off till later, and it costs a lot and is risky, time consuming to be juggling your official transcripts all around.

Regards.

BlueRobin-
I was contacted to submit a scan of my GMAT score report. If you haven't submitted your test score through GMAC, then they require a scan of the score report before your app can be reviewed by the adcom. Could that be the issue?

Blue Robin- Double check on your GMAT report as Nola 10 pointed out. And in the event you retook the GMAT, definitely send them the official report, but in the meantime also send a scanned report to the adcom member who is your application coordinator. Good luck!

Does the Cornell application has any application number one can mention?

Yeah your right Nola and Nikki, GMAT could be the coy culprit.
Thanks for bringing that up,edit: I checked and I did report my original scores when I wrote the exam, so I need to check with these buzy bees@cornell.

Hello!
Does anyone know if R1 decisions were released only on the date specified on the website or if some applicants got notified in the week leading up to that date as well?
Just trying to figure out if R2 decisions will be out before Feb 15th or on Feb 15th only?
Thanks!

Ariel, why does Johnson do the background check at the last minute (i.e. right before the class starts)? I mean, they require deposits a few weeks after the admit, and why don't they just do the check like that and get it out of the way?

Snowflakes: my tooth fairy told me she expects the calls to go out on Thursday 2/10, and I kinda agree, given the pattern shown in this year's round 1 and last year.

@ Blue Robin- You should contact your application coordinator - You can find out that following webpage. You need to login with your username/password, that you had created for your application. On this website you will able to see who your admission app coordinator is and the email address that you can reach them at.
https://johnsoncornell.askadmissions.net ... fault.aspx

@snowflakes- Round 1 decisions for those admitted were about 3-4 days before the decision date. Admits were called by the adcom to be notified of their decisions.

Wishing you the best!

Good question chostein, the answer to which is unfortunately not known to me, sorry. I hope they do them a bit earlier this year. I think there were some tech-related issues last year, so that delayed the process. I wouldn't rely on them doing them really early though. I think they want to have a clear idea as to who's a part of the new class and who isn't and do checks on everyone at the same time. It doesn't take long at all though, perhaps a couple of days, if that.

So I was supposed to interview in Ithaca tomorrow morning but my flight was cancelled due to severe weather. Nothing flying into the entire Northeast/Midwest today. I called Cornell to reschedule my interview but nobody is answering me at admissions or at the main office. Have made several calls since they opened this morning.

Is it possible that they shut down school today? I know there was talk that Ross was closing down today due to weather...

anybody heard anything?
